CULTURE NEWS

  • The Black art show 'art•ish opened Saturday at RiverView Hall in Shreveport and continues today — local vendors and artists are displaying and selling their work.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Shreveport will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Bonvenu Bank Community Room at the Beaird Tower, 333 Marshall St., to launch the Block by Block anti-blight initiative developed with local residents and the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative. The program will begin with a neighborhood sweep on June 21—set to target high-blight areas block by block—and aims to return vacant properties to commerce.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Over 500 protesters gathered in downtown Shreveport on June 14 for the No Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance protest, organized by Indivisible to stand against authoritarianism as a military parade took place in Washington. Protesters marched around the Caddo Parish Courthouse, chanting for equal rights and better healthcare.  Shreveport Times

  • Byrd coach Juan Plaza explained how River Cities Track Club got started — he also shared that the club continues to support local athletes.  Shreveport Times
  • Junior shortstop Miller Sheets led Sterlington to its fourth state championship by hitting .435 with three home runs, 57 RBIs and just three strikeouts during key playoff games plus he was named the 2025 Louisiana Farm Bureau Insurance/LSWA Mr. Baseball award winner after delivering a decisive grand slam in the quarterfinals.  Shreveport Times
  • LSU baseball ace Kade Anderson led the team to a 4-1 win over Arkansas at the College World Series by pitching seven solid innings in which he allowed one run on three hits (including a home run) and struck out seven. After a rough outing in the Super Regional, coach Nate Yeskie said Anderson will work on his plan for next week.  Shreveport Times
