COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation, in partnership with SB Rides and SPAR, will launch the Summer Bike Ride Series in several Shreveport neighborhoods every Monday and Thursday in July from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Youths aged 8 and older will join bike safety classes before a neighborhood ride — bikes will be available for those 12 and up, with hydration, snacks, and lunch provided by the Caddo Parish Commission — ensuring a fun and supervised start to summer.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After a lawsuit by Queensborough parents alleged that public hearings were not held before closing Queensborough Elementary, Judge Pitman required the School Board to hold a public hearing during the Tuesday meeting. The board voted 9-1 to change the zoning for J.S. Clark Elementary to include the Queensborough attendance zone—raising concerns about transportation and staff changes for affected students.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Louisiana state Sen. Blake Miguez launched his bid on Tuesday to unseat U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy in the 2026 race; the 43-year-old competitive sharpshooter—who served in the state House for more than eight years—used a video to criticize Cassidy for betraying conservative principles.  KTBS
  • Drivers in Louisiana are not allowed to wear earbuds or headphones in both ears while driving—a rule that exempts law enforcement, emergency personnel and motorcycle riders with approved headsets, and a first violation carries a $25 fine plus court costs.  Shreveport Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSUS Fishing finished the season in seventh place nationally, marking its second consecutive top-10 finish in the ACA standings. Coach Charles Thompson said the program will expand its roster and recruit top talent—efforts expected to lift the team into the top five in future seasons.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • HoopFest’s Louisiana Summer Championships will be held this weekend at Calvary Baptist where 24 top high school teams—including title contenders Wossman and Richwood—will compete. Games begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with a $20 daily fee and the championship game is set for Sunday at 7:30 p.m.  Shreveport Times
