COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On June 26th at 5 p.m., The Highland Center at 520 Olive Street held a ribbon cutting to mark its expansion into a Community Lighthouse—a solar and battery powered hub designed to offer backup power, cooling, water and emergency services for Shreveport-Bossier. Organizers, led by North Louisiana Interfaith, said the project is part of a three-year plan to boost local resilience in times of disaster.  KSLA

CRIME NEWS

  • Two individuals, Akira Thomas and De’Asia Holmes, were arrested for a cell phone theft scheme using a fake Bumble profile at 9100 Walker Road — dashcam footage and photo lineups linked them to incidents on May 25 and June 8 involving a blue iPhone 15 Pro and a gray Samsung S24 Ultra, with Holmes facing a $20,000 bond.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • Today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.—a reception at Artspace on 708 Texas Street showcases Dr. Jean Brierre’s Lifetime Collection, which features over 60 years of vibrant Haitian art collected by an immigrant physician and cultural bridge-builder and brings music with local community celebration.  KSLA

  • On June 25, Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux proclaimed a day to honor Chef Niema DiGrazia for winning Food Network’s Beat Bobby Flay—she said her win celebrated Shreveport’s culinary scene and opened doors for new opportunities.  Shreveport Times
  • Shreveport's Downtown Development Authority will host the Celebrate Downtown Legacy event on July 1 to mark 190 years since the Caddo Treaty, 40 years since the 1985 Sesquicentennial, and begin the 10-Year Countdown to the city's Bicentennial—an occasion to honor the past and plan for the future.  KTBS
  • The Shreveport City Council approved an additional $1.5 million from 2021 bond interest to cover the cost of finishing three police substations—part of a nearly $6 million project to ease officer response times. Construction on the North substation is underway with planning fast for the South location—completion of all substations is expected by the first quarter of 2026.  KTBS
