  • RISE Shreveport, a local nonprofit, is hosting the #FightForYou Summer Soirée at Bill Cockrell Park this weekend from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. — the free event offers school supplies, a 5K Walk/Run, and health screenings for families — drawing community members for a day of fun and wellness.  KTAL
  • Women of Vision will host its Community Health and Awareness Fair on Saturday, July 19 at the A.B. Palmer Recreation Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event will offer health screenings plus school supplies, a panel of city officials and community leaders, and entertainment with shopping options.  KTAL
  • Shriners Children’s Shreveport unveiled a plaque today to honor Hollis Ray Waller, a local native whose eight-figure estate gift—planned over 40 years—is the largest in the hospital’s 103-year history and will fund critical operations and expanded care for children.  KTAL

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 10 at 3:30 a.m. in the Flournoy Lucas area, deputies found a bag with burglary tools and 300 feet of cut AT&T copper wire near power poles—after a witness spotted a man in all black, 26-year-old Shawn Fielhauer was arrested and booked on charges of felony theft, criminal damage to property, and illegal carrying of weapons.  KSLA
  • Shreveport police said that on Sunday, Corinthian Shepard—a 40-year-old mother of four—was shot and killed in her home near Windermere Drive and Beaufort Way by her estranged husband, Richard Williams, who survived and now faces charges of second-degree murder after being shot by her 19-year-old son in self-defense while funeral arrangements are pending and a GoFundMe has been set up to help cover costs.  KTBS
  • On July 9, Shreveport police arrested Taylor Holste for home invasion and Rebecca Hartfield for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile—after a forced entry incident at a residence in the 8900 block of Blom Boulevard where Holste allegedly assaulted a juvenile’s grandfather, and police confirmed the runaway child was safely placed in custody.  KSLA

  • Shreveport native and Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams III headlined a free youth basketball camp run by Caddo Parish Parks and Rec for grades 5-8 at LSU-Shreveport on Tuesday, July 8, where he taught basketball basics and discipline. He said he will head to Las Vegas for NBA Summer League and rehab following his knee injury—showing his commitment to both his game and community.  KTAL
