COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Northwest Louisiana Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, the City of Shreveport, and Visit Shreveport Bossier are hosting the 47th Annual Softball Tournament at Cargill Park from Friday, July 12th to today. The event features a national tournament, kids' zone, Senior Play, Home Run Derby, Long Ball and food vendors.  KTAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Caddo deputies captured Marcus Allen Harbour (35) on Saturday morning after a vehicle chase that began with a tip about a suspicious vehicle and ended on Henderson Gin Road with no injuries reported.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Many Louisiana teachers use sick days or borrow time to care for their families because most districts offer only 65% pay for extended leave, which cuts into their earnings. Lawmakers have set up a study group and may reintroduce a bill for six weeks of paid leave soon—hoping to help keep teachers in the classroom during the ongoing shortage.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A local viewer in Broadmoor reported years of flooding along Southfield Road and Grover Place, which led city crews from Water and Sewerage and Streets and Drainage to flush drains after a news report. Interim director Brandon Snead inspected the Broadmoor property and said his department will hire a contractor to repair a complex manhole issue (a process that may take months).  KTAL

  • The Northwest Louisiana Sickle Cell Disease Association of America hosted the Sickle Cell Softball Tournament at Cargill Park in Shreveport on Saturday, July 12—teams competed in the event.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • LaMonica 'Noodle' Plater, a Shreveport native playing in Eurobasket, hosted her youth basketball camp in partnership with SPAR on Saturday, July 12 at Woodlawn where children learned basketball skills—she explained that her overseas experience helped her become a leader and that interest in women’s basketball is rising.  KTAL
