  • The Red River Balloon Rally will be held at LA Downs in Bossier City on July 18 and 19 — organizers expect many visitors to see colorful hot air balloons and enjoy family fun at the annual event.  KSLA

CRIME NEWS

  • Shreveport Police arrested 33-year-old Jacoby Page in Mississippi on suspicion of fatally stabbing his mother, Debbie Jones, 63, near the intersection of Youree Drive — East Kings Highway in the 3000 block of Dallas Street last week and he now faces a second-degree murder charge.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Jay from Shreveport stars in TLC’s new spinoff 90 Day Fiancé Hunt For Love — where he navigates a dating square with former cast member Tiffany and fellow contestant Carlo — and the show airs weekly on the TLC Go App and Mondays at 7 p.m. CT.  KTAL
  • On July 15, 2025, Comedy Prize finalists were announced via a live stream on prizefest.com and Facebook at 7 p.m. Eight comedians including Ben Harkins, Grace Johnson, Jamie Wolf, Madison Sinclair, Olivia Carter, Joe Briggs, Peter Revello, and Reggie Conquest will perform at Music Prize Garage on October 16—competing for a $2,500 cash prize.  KTAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four Shreveport firefighters spent most of the last week patrolling a Texas river searching for victims missing after the deadly July 4 floods. They are returning home today after completing their 14-day assignment early—storm developments in the Gulf prompted the change.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Louisiana law now requires drivers to stay in the right lane on multi-lane highways unless passing or turning, and new penalties take effect Aug. 1—first offenses will be fined $150, second offenses $250 and third offenses $350 with possible jail time.  Shreveport Times
  • DOTD crews fixed a blow-up on I-220 westbound between Lakeshore Drive and Jefferson Paige Road on July 16 after extreme summer heat caused the concrete to buckle. Crews will repair a blow-up on I-49 southbound between LA 3132 and Bert Kouns Industrial Loop early next week with planned lane closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Thursday.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Urban League of Louisiana’s Big Health Event will take place on Saturday, August 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center at 400 Caddo St — the event will offer free health screenings, talks, cooking demonstrations, fitness sessions and on-site job interviews, and free parking plus bus transportation from 1237 Murphy St.  KTAL
