  • At Sheriff’s Safety Town, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office taught children digital safety using its new Behind the screen initiative — an interactive workshop that showed kids how to spot online scams and safeguard personal information. Sr. Deputy Nathaniel Bourn said the program aims to help prevent scams and juvenile crimes in the future.  KTAL
  • Local businesses and community groups hosted back-to-school giveaways that provided 500 backpacks via a drive-through event at Rice and Kendig Injury Attorneys + distributed uniforms and shoes at an event at the Highland Center. Parents expressed thanks for these efforts to help ease the transition as children return to school.  KTAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SporTran announced on July 24 that it upgraded its bus system with new technology — the changes were designed to improve service reliability and attract more riders — and officials said the improvements will serve residents across the city. This move is part of ongoing efforts by the transit authority to modernize public transportation in Shreveport.  KTBS
  • An immigration attorney in Shreveport advises residents to keep key details like alien number, birth date and country of birth handy to help track a loved one if ICE detains them—she noted that the ICE locator works only for detention centers—and local community groups plan to support affected families.  KTAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fertility Specialist Dr. John Preston Parry from Positive Steps Fertility explained that IVF, which retrieves eggs, fertilizes them outside the body, and implants the embryo, has given hope to millions since the first IVF baby was born on July 25th — an achievement that continues to improve as technology advances — and now supports around 2% of all births. This celebration of World IVF Day highlights IVF's role in helping many couples start families.  KTAL
  • Healthcare Express in Blanchard is offering discounted school sports physicals for $30 when residents donate a school supply—such as a notebook, folder, crayon, pencil, or backpack. The donated items will be given to a local school chosen by the clinic and donations are accepted throughout August at the 4526 Northport Boulevard location in Shreveport.  KTAL
