ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A pedestrian named Paula Garcia was killed when she ran in front of a 2007 Chevrolet HHR at the intersection of Jewella Avenue and Sumner Street Friday night in Shreveport— the driver remained at the scene, submitted to a chemical test, and is not suspected of impairment. KTBS
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Colin Hurst, 34, from Blanchard, was arrested Saturday for hit-and-run, DWI fourth offense and driving under suspension after deputies responded to a burglary call near Carroll Circle at 8 a.m.—they found him bleeding in a backyard, learned he crashed his car on Glenn Road and ran, treated him at a hospital and later booked him into the Caddo Correctional Center. - ➤ A 16-year-old girl died after a shooting broke out during a large late-night gathering; authorities are investigating the incident. KSLA
- ➤ Police said a 16-year-old girl died after being fatally shot at 1:40 a.m. Sunday, July 27, near Superior Smoke Shop on North Market Street when a large crowd gathered and multiple vehicles exchanged gunfire. KTAL
- ➤ On July 26 at 8 a.m., the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old Colin Hurst for a hit-and-run after he crashed his vehicle on Glen Road and fled on foot to a home on the 6900 block of Carroll Circle near Blanchard where he was found bleeding while attempting to break in; he is booked for hit-and-run, DWI, and driving under suspension from a prior DUI. - ➤ Councilman Grayson Boucher said the newly painted water tower in south Shreveport looks poor after the city spent between $1.2 million and $1.3 million on repainting (cleaning it could cost up to $100,000). The council will question the contractor selection process at Tuesday's meeting (it may review if the tank’s design or color contributed to the issue). Shreveport Times
- ➤ During the July 23 meeting, Police Jury President Glenn Benton honored Renee McKinney, who will retire on August 1 after 30 years of service, and recognized Open Roads Fellowship Church and Pastor Raymond Wilkerson for their volunteer work at the July 4 Freedom Fest at South Bossier Park. The Jury also authorized bid advertisements for Lucky Estates Drainage Improvements— a project with $1.1 million in FEMA funding to reduce flood risk for about 130 homes. Shreveport Bossier Journal
