  • A woman was killed and two others were injured in a shooting at a Shreveport motel on July 29, as one man suffered critical injuries and a second woman was struck by broken glass.  KSLA
  • Shreveport Police are searching for Terry Savannah who allegedly harassed an ex-partner by looking through her backyard window on July 4— and for Kendrick Jones who brutally assaulted his dating partner with brass knuckles in front of two minors on July 6 in the 4200 block of Henry Street.  KTAL
  • A Shreveport resident’s daughter had her phone stolen when it vanished from its last known location and later pinged in Miami and Hong Kong—messages from the thief tried to lure her into removing it from her Apple ID so the device could be reset and sold.  KTBS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Lightcast’s study found that Northwestern State University added $497.1 million to northwest and central Louisiana’s economy during the 2023—2024 fiscal year, supporting over 7,000 jobs in health care, retail and food service. NSU’s spending, research and daily operations created extra value through local business growth and visitor spending.  KTBS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Walter B. Jacobs Memorial Nature Park is closed for construction as Caddo Parks upgrades the site by expanding hiking trails, adding live native animal exhibits, modernizing the nature center, paving parking, and creating new picnic areas—improved accessibility will also be added. The state-of-the-art facility will open this fall, providing more ways for the community to enjoy the outdoors.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Aug. 1, registered Independents will be automatically changed to 'No Party' to eliminate voter confusion ahead of the 2026 Closed Party Primaries, according to the Secretary of State's office. Voters can check their updated affiliation online.  Shreveport Times

  • The Urban League of Louisiana will host the free Big Health Event at the Shreveport Convention Center on Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees will enjoy health activities plus free parking and rides from SporTran.  KSLA
