CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Shreveport police and the City Marshal's Office arrested several individuals at Clear Horizons Apartments on Illinois Street on Tuesday during a multi-agency operation targeting firearms-related crimes — officers also seized multiple firearms and illegal narcotics. KTBS
- ➤ A Shreveport man pleaded guilty in May for running a secret drug lab and was sentenced to 13 years in prison Monday in Caddo District Court—agents found lab equipment and debit cards in a storage unit on Mansfield Road that was used to make over 110 grams of meth. KTBS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Shreveport opened its first new police substation on August 1 at 1 p.m. on Monkhouse Drive near the airport, housing 78 police officers, 40 patrol cars and a state-of-the-art DUI processing center — the facility is expected to improve response times in the area. KTAL
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Shreveport Police Department is hosting a blood drive to honor Officer Thomas LaValley on Tuesday, August 5 at 1234 Texas St.—the event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Community members are encouraged to donate blood—helping to keep his legacy alive. KTAL
- ➤ The Big Health Event is held today in Shreveport with back-to-school giveaways, cooking demos, expert health panels, and free cancer screenings from Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. The event also offers free fitness demos by YMCA and opportunities for job and business growth (organized by Urban League of Louisiana) as community members gather to learn about healthy living. KSLA
