  • Shreveport firefighter Aniyah Brown, a Caddo Magnet High School graduate and valedictorian of the 73rd Fire Basic Academy, has been named the Kiwanis Club 2025 Firefighter of the Year—an honor for her work in a region spanning Louisiana, Mississippi and western Tennessee. She will travel to Memphis to accept the award and continues to mentor students at the Caddo Parish Career and Technology Center.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Leaps and Bounds Playground at A.C. Steere Park has reopened with a new safe and accessible surface that cost $470,000 and was funded by the 2024 Bond, operating funds and contributions from Right to Play. Mayor Tom Arceneaux and Right to Play said the upgrade creates an inclusive space for all children—especially those using wheelchairs—and families are invited to visit at 4009 Youree Drive.  Shreveport's Secrets
  • Shreveport reopened its updated Purple Park at A.C. Steere Park on August 14 with a ribbon cutting, marking the $470,000 resurfacing project funded by 2024 bond issue money, city capital, and private contributions. CRIME NEWS

  • A FedEx driver in Shreveport was arrested on Wednesday, August 13 for allegedly stealing items worth over $25,000 from packages at a strip mall on Youree Drive—authorities say he removed merchandise from several local businesses and investigators expect further stolen goods to be recovered.  KTAL
  • Shreveport Police arrested Lebroderick Jones on August 13 for an armed robbery at Home Federal Bank on Market Street—detectives later found a firearm and dye-stained money in his home linking him to the crime.  KSLA
  • The Shreveport Police Department is looking for 19-year-old Mason Boyett who has autism after he was last seen in the 5100 block of Monkhouse Drive wearing a dark shirt, distressed jeans and Adidas shoes—officials say he may be confused or frightened.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Centenary Muses Book Bazaar will take place on September 12 and 13 at the Centenary Fitness Center where over 50,000 items in 70 categories will be offered — with proceeds benefiting the school. Items will be half off after 1 p.m. on Saturday and donations are accepted year-round.  KTAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Shreveport reminds motorists to slow down in school zones where yellow lines mark speeding camera areas and police patrols enforce traffic rules — drivers speeding near schools risk citations, a measure reinforced by Louisiana’s new cell phone law.  Shreveport's Secrets
  • Louisiana drivers now face fines and up to 30 days of jail time if they drive just 1 mph under the speed limit in the left lane—this law went into effect on Aug.1 and fines start at $150 for the first offense, increasing with repeat violations. State Sen. Jay Luneau said the law is meant to clear the left lane for passing and help reduce accidents and road rage on highways.  Shreveport Times
