ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fourteen-year-old Demarion Davis was riding his bicycle on Greenwood Road when he was struck by a vehicle at 9:40 p.m. on August 8 and died on August 15 at 3:53 p.m. after being taken to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, and Shreveport police continue to investigate the incident.  KTAL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Roblox released a statement on Friday that responded to a lawsuit from Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill—explaining its use of safety tools and parental controls to protect young users. The California firm said it has added features like selfie-video age checks and robust chat filters to keep the platform secure.  KTAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • DJ Cade Alex visited KSLA to talk about upcoming events at the revived Capri theatre—his first EDM show and art exhibit are planned soon. He said the shows will bring fresh energy to the local music scene.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Caddo Parish Schools is reducing bus delays by hiring new permanent drivers and updating bus tracking—Jeff Roberts said that new drivers will start on Monday, August 18th and more will join on later dates to improve pickup times. The transportation department is also fixing stop locations and sharing schedule updates on its website.  KTAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joe Salter, who served as Louisiana House speaker during Hurricane Katrina recovery with Gov. Blanco, died Saturday at 82 in Baton Rouge from the spread of kidney cancer—he is survived by his wife, two children, and four grandchildren.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a free church safety orientation at University Church of Christ in Shreveport on Thursday, September 18th at 6 p.m.—instructors from Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will explain concealed carry laws, emergency planning, and security recommendations for places of worship.  KTAL
  • House Speaker Mike Johnson and Gov. Jeff Landry told Gavin Newsom to focus on California’s problems rather than criticize Shreveport—where crime has dropped 40% this year. Mayor Tom Arceneaux added that local efforts and increased police investments have made the city safer.  Shreveport Times
