COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Family, friends and community members in Shreveport mourn retired Captain Calvin MacHenry Abram Sr., who devoted 42 years to public service (27 with the Shreveport Police Department, 5 with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department and 10 with the Airport Police) and is remembered for his calm spirit and skill in de-escalating tense moments. A celebration of his life will be held this weekend at Union Mission Baptist Church where those who knew him will share memories and honor his legacy.  KTAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Shreveport police arrested Semaj Mitchell, the final suspect linked to the fatal shooting of Labriesha Patterson on Aug.18 in the 1600 block of Martin Luther King Drive—he faces a charge of Second-Degree Murder and reportedly sustained injuries after falling from a moving vehicle during the incident.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • A judge denied Cortrell Burks’ motion to toss his alleged confessions in connection with a double homicide at a Valero — surveillance video linked him to the shooting deaths of clerk Jariah Hamilton and customer Joshua Calk, and his trial is set for August 17 with his defense planning an appeal.  KTBS

  • Mayor Arceneaux and City Council members placed MCC#1 in service today, unveiling the new Mobile Command Center—a $1 million facility funded by the 2021 bond proposal—designed to support operations at key events such as Mardi Gras and Holiday in Dixie, with Chief Wayne Smith saying it will enhance public safety in Shreveport.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Bossier and Benton fire departments, with support from Bossier Parish EMS, completed a tag team skills training session that taught recruits search and rescue, ventilation, ladder use and mayday drills—practicing mutual aid procedures in the heat.  KTAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Willis Knighton Health announced a new partnership with the Mayo Clinic Care Network on Aug. 22, making it the first local health system to join this network. The alliance gives WK access to Mayo care guidelines+eConsults+live video boards to boost patient care.  KSLA
