  • A cornhole tournament called Battle of the Bags will raise funds for first responders + military as local organizers plan the event to support community heroes.  KSLA

CRIME NEWS

  • Since the school year began on August 13, Shreveport police issued 2,291 speeding tickets in active school zones using Blue Line Solutions’ lidar-based cameras—officials said this helps keep kids safe by preventing speeding near schools.  KTAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two Shreveport chefs appeared on Food Network’s Chef Grudge Match on Aug. 26, with Chef De’Unaka Haley beating her mentor Chef Niema DiGrazia to win $10,000 and a prized knife—both chefs work at Abby Singer’s Bistro in downtown Shreveport.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Shreveport City Council passed a resolution Tuesday supporting efforts by the Louisiana Supreme Court + others to reduce the 17-page protective order form to four pages so domestic abuse victims can get help faster.  KSLA
  • Clyde Fant Parkway near the Jimmie Davis Bridge will close for two weeks starting Sept. 8 for bridge replacement work on the Shreveport side—motorists should use alternate routes while northbound lanes and the bridge remain open.  KSLA
  • Mayor Arceneaux visited the KSLA studio on Aug 27 and discussed new SPD equipment & reviewed the Block by Block sweep and LSUS successes.  KSLA
  • The Caddo Parish School Board approved a $1.3 million bid from Willis Knighton Health for the closed Queensborough Elementary School property nearly four months after its closure—public comments on Aug 19 raised concerns that the sale price was low but board members noted the bid was near 93% of the appraised value. Future plans for the building remain unclear.  KTBS
