  • The annual Wiener Dog Charity Races took place on Labor Day at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City. All proceeds went to the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana — Robinson’s Rescue and Paws 4 Life.  KSLA
  • Mark Allen— a Springhill native and lifelong public servant who served over 28 years in the Guard and more than 23 years with the Shreveport Fire Department—died early Sunday morning from cancer.  KTBS
  • The Bossier City Night Market will be held on Saturday, September 6, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. outside Pierre Bossier Mall and will feature over 230 local vendors and 15 food trucks. The event is known as the largest one-day free vendor shopping event in the United States and includes a freedom celebration with live music for family fun.  KTAL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bewley's Furniture on West 70th Street held its last Labor Day sale yesterday and will close in the next month or two after nearly 100 years of service following the passing of the Webb family's father — the Webb siblings decided to end the shop. Creamer Furniture on Shreveport Blanchard Highway will hold an auction on Monday, September 8th after over 50 years in business.  KTBS

CRIME NEWS

  • Cameron Ballentine, a 17-year-old from Shreveport, was fatally shot on Bond Drive early Aug. 31 in the MLK neighborhood—his family said he was lured outside before being shot and noted that he would have had a job interview while police continue investigating with no arrests made.  KSLA

  • Local injury law firm Rice and Kendig explains Louisiana's new slow left lane law on KPXJ CW 21 at 3 p.m. every Monday—Marshall Rice details how the rule will affect local drivers.  KTBS

  • CHRISTUS Oschner Lake Area launched a free breastfeeding support initiative on September 1 to offer new mothers counseling and guidance—services provided at no charge.  KSLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Savannah O’Donohue, an 11th grader at Benton High School, won three gold medals at the World Youth Championship in archery for Team USA. She trained with her compound bow at distances up to 55 yards—her graphic art is also on display at a local gallery until the end of the month.  KTBS
