  • On Friday, an animal rescue that helps small dog adoptions suffered heavy damage when its building caught fire and all dogs were safely removed, and the group is asking for supplies, funds + donations with a GoFundMe campaign nearing its goal.  KTBS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shreveport voters must cast their votes before 7 p.m. today as public voting ends to support SRAC’s proposed live music series for free concerts in the community. The arts council has applied for $120,000 in grants to fund 30 live shows at Caddo Common Park over the next three years — a plan aimed at expanding diverse music offerings.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • The Provenance Community hosted a market—featuring local makers and artists—that gave residents a chance to view unique crafts and support local talent.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bossier City is considering a partnership that will let youth sports games at Tinsley Park be livestreamed on NBC Sports Next’s SportsEngine Play if the City Council approves the ordinance on Sept. 23—this deal would install cameras at no cost to the city and include a revenue-sharing plan, while giving NBC first rights for future sports complexes. LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A recent review of SoBo Café in north Bossier indicates the lunch special offers a half sandwich, soup, drink, and snack items on real plates while the spacious space accommodates around 40 diners. The owner said the eatery will soon be renamed Sweet Fern to ease name confusion—following its move from south to north Bossier.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • YMCA in Shreveport-Bossier is asking locals to donate for a new baseball—softball complex, with the Play Ball campaign now in its 5th day of fundraising. The donations will help support plans to complete the facility and boost local sports opportunities.  KSLA
  • Week 3 of the high school football season in Shreveport-Bossier features key games—Haughton at Parkway on September 18, Airline at Union Parish on September 19, and BTW versus Green Oaks on September 21 at Leonard C. Barnes Stadium. Top performers like Justin Whitaker are set to play at home at 7 p.m. except for the Saturday contest at 5 p.m.  Shreveport Times
  • Heath Hunt won $100 in the Shreveport-Bossier Journal High School Football Pick 'Em Contest — he bested other predictors in week 2 — and fans may submit their picks until Thursday at 4 to win the next prize.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • Haughton won its overtime football game against Byrd Friday night after Case Corkern caught the game-winning two-point conversion pass at Harold E. Harlan Stadium—players finally bounced back from a painful loss in the season opener.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Fans can vote online for the Week 2 non-football Athlete of the Week from 12 local schools—candidates include those in cross country, swimming, volleyball, and cheerleading, and winners will be announced Saturday after the ballot closes Thursday night.  Shreveport Times
