COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday evening, more than 300 people gathered at First Bossier for a night of prayer—honoring Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old activist shot Sept. 9 at Utah Valley University—while speakers led prayers for his family.  Shreveport Times
  • Caddo Parish Animal Services introduced Wrigley, a playful three‐month‐old puppy who is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered—he and his sister Pippin are still looking for a home; families can visit the shelter at 1500 Monty Street to adopt him for $50.  KTAL
  • Downtown Shreveport is set to host the annual block party National Night Out on Oct. 7 for the first time since the 1990s to strengthen ties between residents, businesses and police. The kickoff begins at 4 p.m. at Texas Street and Louisiana Avenue — hosts must register with police by Sept. 30 to secure road closures and traffic control.  KTBS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • SporTran’s CEO spoke on a national stage about plans for autonomous vehicles as the company prepares to test its automated systems—while two officers injured in a Sept. 14 shooting were released from the hospital and Mayor Arceneaux visited the KSLA studio on Sept. 17 to discuss local initiatives.  KSLA
  • SporTran CEO Dinero’ Washington spoke in Boston to say that the company is moving autonomous vehicles from tests to real service. SporTran will launch its trial service, Evolve, in 2026 + marking a new step for Shreveport’s mobility.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sci-Port Discovery Center in Shreveport will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 25 at 11 a.m. to unveil its new musical Tesla Coil—guests will watch a live demonstration before it becomes the highlight of Spooky Science Month in October.  KTAL
  • BPCC Theatre Program and the Cavalier Players will present An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe from Oct. 3–12 at the Stephen W. Slaughter Theatre on the BPCC Bossier Campus—featuring stage adaptations of six of Poe’s haunting stories. Evening shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3, 4, 10, and 11—while matinees are set for 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 and 12.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LSU Shreveport will host the fifth annual Conference for Young Adult Literature Louisiana on November 7 at Noel Memorial Library with 14 sessions starting at 9 a.m. and a keynote reception by author Brittany N. Williams later in the day. Registration is $40 for the public and $20 for students — educators earn 7 continuing education hours.  KTAL
  • Shreve Memorial Library branches are hosting free space events for kids to learn about NASA’s Artemis II mission until September 24. Today at Hamilton/South Caddo Branch at 10:30 a.m. kids ride a storytime rocket ship and visit North Caddo Branch for a button moon collage—and West Shreveport, Hollywood/Union Ave, Wallette, and Atkins branches offer more programs on September 19 at 4:45 p.m., September 22 at 10 a.m., September 23 at 10 a.m., and September 24 at 4:30 p.m.  KTAL
  • The Caddo Parish School Board approved modifications to Superintendent Keith Burton's contract by extending his term to September 30, 2028 & adjusting evaluation and leave policies to better align with finalized student data and maintain stable leadership during reform efforts.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux will rappel down Fairmont Tower Apartments on Oct. 3 for the Over the Edge Challenge fundraiser — an event to raise money for nonprofits like Shreveport Common and Fuller Center for Housing NWLA. Participants must raise at least $1,500 to join the challenge and support these local causes.  KSLA
  • Louisiana recorded its lowest number of road fatalities in five years with 753 deaths in 2024 as more people buckled up and fewer died in drunk driving crashes—law enforcement also made 13,675 DWI arrests, a 4.3% increase due to enhanced enforcement efforts.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
