- ➤ KSLA honored first responders with its 2nd Annual First Responder of the Year Awards at The Riverdome at Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City on September 18th starting at 7:30 p.m.—the event recognized the service of responders across the ArkLaTex. KSLA
- ➤ The Highland Center finalized a community-approved design featuring butterflies and bugs for Shreveport’s largest street mural and is now seeking volunteers—painting by numbers to keep it simple and accessible. KSLA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities will launch a free six week family reading program to build literacy and spark discussion on values like fairness and courage. The program will begin on October 6 at 6 p.m. at Sheriff’s Safety Town—8910 Jewella Ave. KTAL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Arceneaux said Shreveport is safe as the National Guard will not be deployed and crime rates have dropped while the city increases officer recruitment. He added that the Caddo Parish Commission will vote on a new southeast pickleball complex, volunteers will complete the final Block by Block cleanup in Broadmoor this weekend, and a proposed economic development district may add a sales tax to fund improvements—details to be refined soon. - ➤ Shreveport Regional Airport will receive $1.75M in federal grants for reconstructing terminal chillers and designing updates—expanding areas for new gates and relocating air traffic control towers. The funding is part of an $11.76M federal effort to modernize airports across Louisiana. KTBS

- ➤ Shreveport police headquarters remains partly occupied as nearly all officers and staff have moved out following safety concerns last year—some patrol operations and administrative staff still remain in the crumbling Texas Avenue facility.
