COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Highland Center asked community members to help paint Shreveport's largest street mural+ the project will let locals add color and creativity to their neighborhood.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bossier Parish Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District No. 1 lifted the boil advisory for Village Water System customers after a contractor's work on water lines along Winfield and Wafer Roads caused a temporary interruption — tests from the Louisiana Department of Health Laboratory in Shreveport confirmed that the water is safe.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • The Caddo Commission approved a $10 million proposal for a new pickleball park in southeastern Shreveport following a 9—3 vote, with plans for 19 lighted courts, a 6,000-square-foot clubhouse, and a championship stadium. Officials said revenue bonds will fund the project once planning and contract talks begin.  Shreveport Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Northwest Louisiana Out of the Darkness Walk will take place on Saturday, October 18 at Betty Virginia Park in Shreveport and will raise funds for suicide prevention for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The family-friendly event aims to exceed last year's nearly $26,000 raised and almost 300 participants (with a target of $35,000 and 450 participants).  KTAL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carlie Guile, a top 2027 prospect from Calvary, announced on Sunday that she will play softball at UCF in the Big 12—she praised the coaching staff and family-centered campus after her four state championship wins with the Lady Cavaliers.  Shreveport Times
  • Fifteen high school athletes from the Shreveport-Bossier area are nominated in the Week 3 Football Player of the Week poll and fans can vote until Thursday evening – the winner will receive a prize package from local sponsors including Raising Cane’s, Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, and Cosse and Silmon Orthodontics – with the award announced Saturday.  Shreveport Times
  • Grambling beat Texas A&M in a thrilling game on Saturday that kept fans excited. The win added to Grambling's strong season as they improved their record.  KSLA
  • Week 4 high school football in the Shreveport-Bossier area features marquee matchups at Airline vs Evangel, Huntington vs Haughton, and North DeSoto vs Northwood. Top players like Gabe Lockett, Antonio Gladney and Kyran Johnson will play at home as most contests start at 7 p.m.—one game begins at 7:30 p.m.  Shreveport Times
  • The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs dominated Southern Miss on Saturday night by scoring all 30 points in the first half—that gave them a strong lead—and secured a 30-20 win at Origin Bank Field. Tight end Eli Finley had a 73-yard catch that set up the first touchdown and Tech will face Southern Miss again next year when they join the Sun Belt Conference.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Voting is now open online for the Week 3 Shreveport Times High School Athlete of the Week for non-football sports—candidates come from 12 local schools competing in cross country, volleyball, cheerleading and swimming. Fans can vote through Thursday night and the winner will receive prizes and a feature story when announced Saturday.  Shreveport Times
  • On Friday night at Independence Stadium, Huntington’s Raiders beat Benton 59-57 as Caidenn Starks caught a touchdown. Coach John Simon earned his first win as the Raiders rushed for 227 yards while Benton still searches for its first victory.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Senior Braylun Huglon helped Calvary Baptist beat top-ranked Franklin Parish 33 to 30 last Friday by scoring three touchdowns, including an eight yard pass and one hundred yard pick six that gave his team an early boost. Coach Rodney Guin said the win sets a strong tone for future games & builds team trust as they work through injuries.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
