- ➤ LSUS will host the AI in Business Conference on October 10 from 8:30 a.m. to noon to show how AI transforms business decision-making in marketing, human resources, and strategy. - ➤ A new report by True Transition (a nonprofit) found that there are over 1,100 oil platforms in Louisiana waters with 879 likely abandoned and the state does not track their locations. - ➤ Louisiana's rare pine snake — one of the rarest in North America — has fewer than 200 individuals remaining due to lost longleaf pine forests and sandy soil habitats. Federal and local agencies are working to restore its environment and support recovery efforts. Shreveport Times

- ➤ The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a Youth Firearms Safety Camp for children aged 10–13 at the CPSO Regional Academy on October 7 and October 9 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—parents can apply by mailing a form to the academy. Applications are now open for the program to teach safe firearm handling practices. KTAL
- ➤ Shreveport’s 2024 audit revealed that federal funding dropped from $286 million to $54 million and uncovered IRS penalties, payroll lapses, and uncollected property liens that raised concerns for taxpayers; council chairwoman Tabatha Taylor and CAO Tom Dark acknowledged repeat issues as the city planned corrective actions – assets grew by $55 million while liabilities increased nearly $45 million. - ➤ Kenny Crawford, the last taxi cab owner in Shreveport, said outdated city ordinance is imposing extra costs on drivers by requiring background checks and a chauffeur’s license that state law no longer demands—putting taxis at a disadvantage against rideshare companies.
