COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Ronald McDonald House Shreveport-Bossier is finishing final touches and will open next month to offer free stays for 20 families whose children receive hospital care. A public grand opening is scheduled for October 28 at 10:30 a.m.—volunteers are encouraged to sign up for meal service.  KSLA
  • The remains of U.S. Army Pvt. Blanchard E. Pruitt, who died as a prisoner of war during World War II, will be laid to rest Tuesday at 2 p.m. with full military honors at Mitchell Cemetery in Anacoco—service is scheduled at the Anacoco Pentecostal Church and visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many.  KTBS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bewley’s Furniture Center in Shreveport announced it will close after decades of service and is holding a massive sale with up to $5 million in furniture on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers can shop on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. plus Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and are advised to bring a truck for transport.  KTAL

CRIME NEWS

  • Facebook’s parent company Meta is paying $725 million from a privacy settlement linked to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, but scammers are sending texts with fake links+people are advised to check the sender and not share personal details if they filed a claim.  KTBS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shreveport artist Brittney Hazelton will open her free exhibition, Imaginarium by Sysica | Characters & Personalities, at the Bossier Arts Council on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m.—the show displays her mixed-media work that blends watercolor and acrylics to explore fantasy and character creation. Guests can also view Frank Herbert’s Southern Colours in a separate gallery and submit their own character ideas for a chance to be featured.  KSLA
  • Debra Roberson has been named the 2025 recipient of the G. Scott Griffin Award by the Community Foundation of North Louisiana—recognizing her artistic achievements and resilience in overcoming early hardships.  KTAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Shreveport City Council approved a new film and entertainment economic district downtown that covers areas like the Red River District, the old Millennium studio and Stage Works—many of these properties belong to 50 Cent. The artist will invest $50 million and a new show called Shreveport Justice is in creative development despite flooding delays impacting work.  KTAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, DeSoto Parish School District is preparing students for future careers in science and technology by launching an AI task force and the new STAR Academy at Mansfield Middle School—Superintendent Clay Corley said the programs will help students adapt to emerging work trends.  KTBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Arceneaux visited KSLA on Sept. 24 and discussed plans for the Keep La. Beautiful conference, responses to the Allendale mass shooting, and boosting local economic growth — his remarks came as local officials monitored news after a man was shot on Ray Street Tuesday evening.  KSLA
  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office launched its annual food drive on September 24th and is asking residents to donate over 4,000 pounds of nonperishable items to help those in need. Donations will be accepted at several locations until November 20—such as North Market in Shreveport—to support the drive.  KTAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • LSU Health Shreveport has been awarded a five-year, $7.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation to open its new Center for Post-Transcriptional Regulation+The center, led by Oren Rom and Wayne Orr, is the first NSF-funded center grant in LSUHS history.  KSLA
