  • Christus Health awarded $305,000 to six organizations at a Shreveport ceremony to help provide vital resources for families in need across north Louisiana—supporting mobile market programs, training opportunities and health services. The funds are part of an ongoing effort to uplift local communities.  KTAL
  • Mayor Tom Arceneaux led a second line parade that kicked off the 49th Annual Red River Revel on September 25—bringing the community together in Shreveport in celebration.  KSLA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chef Israel ‘Izzy’ Andrade splits his time between running La Dolce Vita at 2369 Airline Drive in Bossier City — an Italian restaurant he co-owns with his wife — and working as a culinary lead for the Dallas Cowboys during football season. He commutes from the Shreveport area to AT&T Stadium in Arlington and offers a 25% discount for first responders.  KTBS
  • Meta is constructing one of the largest data centers in rural Louisiana—a $10B project that requires over $3B in new power infrastructure and has raised concerns due to undisclosed contract details. Local residents and officials in Richland Parish and nearby Delhi worry about rising property prices and potential future costs as the project moves forward.  KTAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Senator Bill Cassidy announced that Louisiana will soon receive $49,838,000 from the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to preserve over 20,000 acres of waterfowl habitat—$14.6 million will fund 3,285 acres at the Red River National Wildlife Refuge and $35.2 million will fund about 17,023 acres at the Upper Ouachita National Wildlife Refuge.  KTBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Shreveport are urged to check and update their mailing address to ensure they receive property tax bills mailed in November and avoid missed payments due on December 31—taxes include those on real and personal property.  KTAL
  • Calumet, Inc. held an emergency drill at its Shreveport facility today—coordinating with local and state first responders and closing west-side roads to keep the public safe.  KTBS
  • A statewide 911 outage impacted many Louisiana parishes after a major fiber cut and AT&T technical issues disrupted emergency calls while some areas could only reach landlines. Local authorities, including Shreveport police—(318) 673-2129—provided alternate emergency numbers so residents could get help.  KSLA

HEALTH NEWS

  • LSU Health Shreveport received a five-year, $7.5M grant from the National Science Foundation to build a new research center that will study how cells control energy use and help fight diseases. The center will offer research opportunities for high school and college students—building local science expertise for future biotech advances.  KTAL

  • Shreveport native Jack Smith drove 381 yards at the World Long Drive Championship at Bigfoot Turf Farm from September 25-27—he is now ranked fifth in the Men’s Open Division as the event continues.  KTAL
