  • Shreveport native singer-songwriter Mariah Dawne is set to perform at the Red River Revel this weekend — her act is expected to energize the local music scene.  KTBS
  • Today the Bossier City Farmers Market celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month — featuring authentic Hispanic foods, live music and cultural art highlighting traditions from Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Costa Rica and more — and offers free admission and parking until Oct. 15.   • Neu Aviation will host a Flight School Open House on October 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Shreveport Downtown Airport—offering aircraft tours, flight simulators and career presentations as residents learn about affordable pilot training opportunities. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 24 an EF-1 tornado touched down in south Benton near Lost River Estates and briefly damaged a fence and snapped trees along Palmetto Road.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana's solicitor general J. Benjamin Aguiñaga, appointed by Attorney General Liz Murrill in January 2024, will present the state's case before the U.S. Supreme Court on October 15—challenging redistricting rules under the Voting Rights Act. Aguiñaga, a former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito who has worked on high-profile cases, faces high stakes as his argument could reshape district lines and voting rights nationwide.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Louisiana DOTD announced a $9.6 million project to fix a 4.6-mile section of Hearne Avenue that will begin Oct 3, with work including patching, milling, new asphalt paving and drainage improvements—designed to improve travel for nearly 20,000 motorists daily. The project is expected to be completed in late spring as crews use alternating lane closures to keep the road safe.  KSLA
  • The City of Shreveport launched its new Economic Development One-Stop Website to help entrepreneurs by providing step-by-step checklists, direct links for permits, licenses and key resources.   • On Thursday night, Loyola, Captain Shreve, and Ruston won high-scoring football games. Loyola beat Southwood 56—0, Captain Shreve edged Benton 59—48, and Ruston defeated Midland Legacy 49—21.  Shreveport Times
  • Grambling State University enters SWAC play today at 6 p.m. in Dallas as Coach Mickey Joseph leads his team against Prairie View A&M in the Texas State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl. Coaches say both teams will battle on the run and pass, with Prairie View’s balanced offense testing the Tigers’ defenses — a clash expected to shape their season.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Tonight, two big high school football games take place as undefeated District 1-5A teams Airline and Evangel will play—Airline won a close game last year while Evangel features a rising quarterback. In District 1-4A, undefeated North DeSoto will host Northwood as the teams try to build on their wins and strengthen their local rankings.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Loyola’s Flyers beat Southwood 56 to 0 at Independence Stadium on Thursday night as Charlie McKenzie tied the record with four touchdown catches and Ty Walsworth completed a 92 yard pass, marking the first shutout since last season and the largest shutout margin since 1967. The Flyers will host Minden next Friday at Messmer Stadium as they look to build on this record-setting win + coach John Sella said the game sent a strong message in district play.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
