- ➤ Neighbors in Shreveport rescued a kitten trapped in a storm drain near Centenary Boulevard and Kings Highway during a storm on Wednesday — local helper Mack McKay used his ladder and a sheet to free the animal. The kitten is healthy, has a vet appointment scheduled, and has found its forever home with a resident. KTBS
- ➤ The Pines to the Gulf Girl Scout troop is completing its Silver Award Project this weekend by building a ramp at the Caddo Parish Animal Shelter. KSLA
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Ingleside reported that trash, furniture, and a refrigerator full of rotten food dumped near abandoned homes have caused health hazards and rat problems—city officials and police using new camera surveillance under the Block-by-Block initiative aim to catch violators and encourage quick reporting. - ➤ Dixie Maze Farms, an attraction destination, began its final Fall Festival on Sept. 27 — it will continue with festivities until Nov. 1 before closing permanently. KSLA
- ➤ Today, the Red River Revel Arts Festival ends its first weekend at Festival Plaza as Squonk plays several times and invites the crowd to join in on the Squonkcordion—adding to a lineup of artist vendors, musicians, and children’s activities; the second weekend begins Oct. 2. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new nationwide study finds Louisiana ranked 49th in climate and health metrics—showing that many care facilities are at risk from floods and extreme weather. - ➤ Louisiana State Police installed 55 child car seats on Saturday as part of National Seat Check Saturday — several of which were donated by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, and parents received hands-on training for proper installation. In 2024, 13 children under 14 were killed in car crashes with only four properly restrained, which underscores the program's need. KTBS
- ➤ The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said that a $9.6 million repair project will start on October 3 for a 4.6-mile stretch of Hearne Avenue and will include patching, asphalt removal and new paving. Drivers in Shreveport should expect delays during peak travel times and a separate $4.7 million project to repair LA 530 near Oil City will also begin on October 3 and finish in late spring 2026. - ➤ Albertson’s announced a voluntary recall of certain deli items after learning that bow tie pasta noodles may be contaminated with Listeria—customers in Shreveport are urged to avoid the products and clean any surfaces that came in contact with them. KTAL
- ➤ During flu season for the next three weeks, Overton Brooks VA Medical Center is hosting a drive-through flu clinic where veterans can receive free flu shots on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.—veterans must show valid ID and may visit primary or specialty clinics Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in lieu of Saturday access.
