- ➤ After 26 years in business, Dixie Maze Farms will hold its final Fall Fest from Sept. 27 until Nov. 1 as the owners plan to retire—ending a local tradition that began in 1999 and brought rides, outdoor movies, and campfire experiences to the community. KSLA
- ➤ The Block by Block team was honored at the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Conference—speaking on a panel about their initiative and winning the Community Improvement Award. Leaders from around Louisiana later met with the team to discuss how to bring Block by Block to their own cities. Shreveport Bossier Journal
- ➤ A Shreveport Girl Scout troop completed its Silver Award Project on Sept. 27 by building a ramp at Caddo Parish Animal Shelter—this effort aimed to improve access for dogs and encourage adoptions. KSLA
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Just after 1 a.m. Sunday, Caddo Fire Districts 3, 4, and 6 responded to flames at the Woolworth Road Landfill using a thermal imaging drone, heavy machinery capped burning material—firefighters maintained control while smoke may linger for several hours. KTBS
- ➤ A fire started early on Sept. 28 at Woolworth Road Landfill and burned several acres—investigators are looking into the cause. KSLA
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ St. Paul’s Methodist Church held an outdoor service in Allendale on Sept. 28 to honor victims of a mass shooting from Sept. 20 that killed Johnny Ray Robinson, 42. KSLA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Sept. 28, the first weekend of the 49th Red River Revel Arts Festival ended in Shreveport with lively art displays and music. Organizers said the festival will return next weekend—continuing to offer local art and community fun. KSLA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Shreveport officials announced that they will spend over $111K on a five-year contract to replace outdated Taser X2s with 30 new Axon Taser 10s as support for the older model ended. The upgrade will align city marshals with police and taxpayer funds will cover the purchase (the deal begins with $25,399 this year and $21,594 each year through 2029). KTBS

- ➤ Voting is now open for the Shreveport Times Athlete of the Week award featuring candidates from volleyball, swimming, cross country, and cheerleading at 16 local high schools — fans may cast votes online until Thursday. The winner will be announced on Saturday and will receive a backpack, a boxed lunch combo, and additional swag. Shreveport Times
- ➤ Athletes of varying abilities met at Lee Hedges Stadium on Saturday for a track and field competition—Move United sanctioned the GUMBO State Governor’s Games, a series of adaptive events including races and field sports for competitors with physical, visual, hearing, or intellectual impairments. - ➤ Shreveport native Sam Burns and the USA team tried to come back on Sunday in the Ryder Cup but lost when his drive on the 18th went into a sand trap, giving Europe a 15-13 win. Shreveport Bossier Journal
