- ➤ This fall, several pumpkin patches in Shreveport are open with events that include corn mazes and block parties—DixieMaze Farms offers its final festival with horse rides, the Junior League’s Provenance Pumpkin Patch funds community projects with seasonal hours, and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church marks 35 years with a block party on Oct. 7. - ➤ Local community members in Shreveport are pushing for more official recognition of Creole Heritage Month to honor the diverse mix of African+French+Spanish+indigenous Caribbean heritage that shapes local culture. KSLA
- ➤ Bossier City Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #39 will host a cookout fundraiser for officers injured on Sept. 14 and their families, with the event scheduled for Friday, Oct. from 11am to 1pm at 620 Benton Rd, the Bossier City Police Department—100% of proceeds will cover recovery costs. - ➤ Tomorrow, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a pumpkin decorating contest from 1–5 p.m. at Sheriff’s Safety Town at 8910 Jewella Avenue, where families can paint pumpkins to celebrate fall; from Oct. 6 to Oct. 15, the public will visit Monday–Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to vote for their favorite designs with winners announced on Oct. 16. - ➤ The Prize Foundation announced that Food Prize 2025 will run from October 15—19 with local chef finalists teaming up with celebrity chefs at events like Come and Get It, Celebrity Chef BBQ Takeover, and the Battle for the Golden Fork. Residents will enjoy tastings and contests at local venues as mixologists and chefs compete for the Golden Shaker and Golden Fork trophies. Shreveport's Secrets
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Finance Director Sheila Faour said the city collected $111 million in sales and use taxes as of Aug. 31 with $14 million collected in August. The financial report shows $179 million in general fund revenue and spending by key departments—police, fire and public works—as the city works to balance its budget this year. KTBS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux submitted the city’s 2026 budget proposal with a $709.4 million operating budget and a capital improvements budget of more than $1.1 billion, which includes a 2% surcharge on water and sewer bills to fund the demolition of blighted properties — an effort to spur redevelopment. The City Council will review the budgets over the next two months and vote on them on or before Dec. 15. Shreveport Times
- ➤ The Metropolitan Planning Commission rejected the request to build a 24-hour Murphy USA gas station at the southwest corner of Kings Hwy and St. Vincent Avenue because residents and officials warned it would increase traffic, noise and loitering—Caddo Commissioner Victor Thomas said the plan did not fit Shreveport's neighborhood character. - ➤ Calvary Baptist Academy's senior class impressed local recruiters as offensive lineman Hunter Davis received offers from Division II teams & engaged in talks with a Division I school while other players, including cornerback Braylun Huglon and safety Luke Miller, showcased strong skills. - ➤ The Shreveport Rouxgaroux arena football team has moved to Bossier City and is now known as the Louisiana Rouxgaroux—bringing professional sports back to the Brookshire Grocery Arena after a 15-year break. Team owner Keith Carter said the team will play its 2026 season starting Feb. 26 with tickets priced around $24. Shreveport Times
- ➤ Evangel Eagles (3-1) will face Huntington Raiders (2-2) today at Independence Stadium in District 1-5A. The Raiders, adjusting to a new coach and losing 36 seniors, have scored 102 points in their last two games while Evangel stays perfect under junior Peyton 'Pop' Houston. Shreveport Bossier Journal
