  • Petrina's Purple Passion launched its initiative to raise awareness on domestic violence during October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month — the effort will offer community support and resources for survivors.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Food Prize 2025 will kick off Prize Fest on Oct.15 in Shreveport with local chefs paired with celebrity chefs to compete for top awards — the Golden Fork for chefs and the Golden Shaker for mixologists. The competition will continue with a celebrity chef BBQ on Oct.17 and a Battle for the Golden Fork on Oct.18 — awarding $5,000 to the winner.  Shreveport Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Economist Loren Scott will release his 2026-2027 Louisiana Economic Outlook on Friday at 9 a.m. at The Port of Caddo-Bossier Regional Commerce Center on Doug Attaway Boulevard, and the report will detail employment trends, economic growth, and changes in oil and natural gas industries.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office launched a free literacy program in partnership with the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities on Oct 3 to support families with children struggling with reading. The six‐week program is designed for kids 6 to 10 with additional activities for preschoolers and siblings up to 16 and offers free registration by calling Deputy V. Williams at 318-681-0869.  KTAL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana will close the southern flounder season from Oct. 15-Nov. 30 to help an overfished species recover. A February report said fish numbers have dropped and some early gains may not last—so the closure lets mature females move offshore to spawn.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Louisiana Department of Health began running SNAP and several other programs on October 1 using Project One Door to combine services for Louisiana families—there was no break in benefits. The change is expected to cut paperwork and lower wait times for many residents.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Louisiana homebuyers and policyholders face delays with flood insurance and real estate transactions due to a federal shutdown that began October 1 and suspended new policies and renewals. Realtors and insurance agents say current coverage remains for existing policies—affecting more than 434,000 people until Congress restores funding.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • Evangel beat Huntington 62-14 on Thursday night at Independence Stadium in a District 1-5A game using strong offense and control of the field- quarterback Peyton Houston threw for 419 yards and six touchdowns as Huntington’s young team struggled.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • In Week 5 football, Loyola’s junior quarterback Bryce Restovich broke records by throwing for 507 yards and eight touchdowns in a 71—48 win over Minden. North DeSoto stayed undefeated with a 44—16 victory over BTW while Bossier, Natchitoches Central, D’Arbonne Woods, Mansfield, Calvary, Northwood, Kinder and Glenbrook also recorded key wins.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Today the Super Retriever Series Crown Championship begins in Caddo and Bossier Parishes with Retriever Trials at Camp Minden and will move to the Louisiana Boardwalk for dock diving events on Oct. 10 to 12 with a Pet Palooza on Oct. 11 featuring pet adoptions + costume contests led by local rescues.   • Centenary’s football team takes the field today at Austin College with kickoff at 6:00 p.m. after coming off a bye week and two losses, and head coach Byron Dawson said the Gents will work to correct past mistakes and improve play (conference games begin next week).  Shreveport Bossier Journal
