GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in north Caddo Parish will vote on Oct. 11 on three propositions to renew funding for Caddo Fire District 8, which supports fire and emergency services in Vivian, Hosston, Ida, and Rodessa. • Nearly 1,000 civilian employees at Barksdale Air Force Base have been furloughed due to the government shutdown, with support functions reduced while essential operations continue. Captain Hunter Rininger said non-excepted workers will receive back pay once Congress restores funding—delays in funding could create financial challenges for the affected employees.  KSLA
  • The Shreveport Police Department has moved key offices for records, licenses, fingerprinting and safe custody exchanges as its Texas Street headquarters is emptied to make way for a new building expected to be completed in 2027. Residents can now visit 1120 South Pointe Parkway in Building A—located one block behind Walmart—or the substation on the 5200 block of Monkhouse Dr. for services.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Officials from the Caddo-Bossier Parishes Port Commission reported that employee salaries totaled over $2.8M as of Oct. 3—executive port director Eric England earned over $404,000 while operators made between $60,000 and $70,000 with funding coming from local taxes and fees.  KTBS
