- ➤ Marilynn’s Place at 4041 Fern Ave. in Shreveport will come under new local investor ownership led by entrepreneur Bob Thames on October 14 while current owner Boz Baucum will host his final brunch on October 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—new owners will launch a multi-year renovation that adds a seated bar area and slight menu tweaks and will hold a tip drive to support staff during the temporary work pause. - ➤ Chimp Haven, the world's largest chimpanzee sanctuary near Shreveport, will mark its 30th anniversary with a special fall Chimpanzee Discovery Day on October 18 from 9 a.m. to noon as Gov. Jeff Landry will issue a proclamation naming the day Chimp Haven Day in Louisiana. KTBS

- ➤ Mayor Tom Arceneaux announced his bid for reelection for four more years on Oct. 8 — his birthday — and was joined by Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson at the event. KSLA
- ➤ Shreveport City Council Chairwoman Tabatha Taylor expressed concerns about the mayor’s new water surcharge proposal — she said the change might lead to higher water bills as the council reviews its details. KSLA
- ➤ Bossier City Council delayed final approval of its 2026 budget until Oct. 21 after a long debate focused on part-time raises, a switch to a higher-deductible Aetna health plan, and proposed cuts to local programs—council members will work with finance staff on further revisions. KTBS
