  • Velma, a sweet pup injured as a stray, has fully recovered and is now ready for adoption at Caddo Parish Animal Services. The shelter is hosting a Bissell Pet Foundation Adoption Event on October 11 — adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchipping, and vaccinations.  KTAL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lafayette-based Sneaker Politics will partner with ASICS to release the GEL-K1011 Live Oak, a Louisiana-themed sneaker honoring local heritage—this collaboration is expected to offer a fresh option for sneaker fans.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • Capri Theater will host three events this October for the spooky season. The events include a dubstep and EDM show on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. featuring Ternion Sound, a live performance by Logan Ryan Band on Oct. 24, and a Halloween night party with hip-hop acts and a horror film screening hosted by The Vampire Club—tickets start at $37.10 and $19 respectively.  KSLA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On October 9, Parish President Ernel Jones declared a burn-ban in DeSoto Parish due to a rainfall shortage, and he said violators would face heavy fines. The ban remains in place until further notice.  KTAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Families on Dawson Road have long been affected by flooding during storms. At a special session on Thursday, Caddo Parish commissioners proposed appropriating $1.2 million from the Public Works Road Fund to upgrade drainage, repair the road, and extend it to Resilient Way—parish engineers said design work will begin this year and construction will follow once the plan is finalized.  KTBS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Willis Knighton is offering drive-thru flu shots for adults and children three and older at Quick Care Bossier on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.—another session will be held at Quick Care Pierremont on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9:00 a.m. to noon with high-dose vaccines available for those 65 and older.  KTAL
  • Two people were hospitalized in Louisiana yesterday after receiving counterfeit Botox injections from unlicensed sources + the Louisiana Department of Health warned residents to avoid these cosmetic shots.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
