COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Shreveport will host the State Fair of Louisiana from October 30 to November 16 with the fair closed on Mondays and Tuesdays while offering free admission until 3 p.m. on weekdays and free parking; it will also offer special promotions such as an opening day discount and family day rates and enforce an after 6 p.m.—minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or chaperone with a valid ID.  KSLA
  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is hosting its C.H.O.I.C.E program—designed to help guide local youth in making better choices—in an effort to steer kids away from trouble.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mark Pugh, co-owner of the Shreveport Comedy Club, visited KSLA’s studio to discuss his journey in comedy with Brittney Hazelton. He explained how early talent shows and regular open mics shaped his craft—while noting challenges like technical issues during live sets.  KSLA
  • The monthly Shreveport-Bossier Film Industry Meet Up is set for October 25 — local film fans can join networking sessions to get involved in the area's film industry.  KSLA
  • Local hip hop artists will host a vampire-themed Halloween party at Capri Theater—featuring an original horror short film screening. The event will bring together music and film fans in Shreveport.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alyson Humphrey Smith, a music teacher at A.C. Steere Elementary School, was named one of 25 semifinalists for the 2026 Grammy Music Educator Award (selected from over 2,000 nominations) and will compete for a $10,000 grant for herself plus an equal school grant (finalists to be announced in November) at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.  KTAL
  • An NSU alumnus posted an open letter to protest the music department's use of AI to design music posters — he said the practice sidelines art students — and he urged the university to reconsider its approach.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Caddo Parish Commission will consider appropriating $50,000 from the Economic Development Fund at a public hearing on October 23 to support Christmas in Roseland. The annual festival hosted by the American Rose Center faces financial challenges after the National Rose Society relocated — leaving local organizers seeking a funding boost.  KTAL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Captain Shreve’s lineman Osborne Demery won the Shreveport Times football Athlete of the Week 5 poll from 14 North Louisiana teams by earning 26,310 votes out of 64,601 cast—he will receive a sports backpack and gift card from local sponsors as he wraps up his senior year.  Shreveport Times
  • The Shreveport Mudbugs will face the Corpus Christi Ice Rays in an upcoming game+ both teams train hard for a match that could influence their season standings+ with growing local interest.  KSLA
  • Texas Lutheran defeated Centenary College in a game held in Shreveport—each team showed strong effort from start to finish.  KSLA
  • Airline volleyball player Ka’Mya Allen won the Shreveport Times non-football Athlete of the Week 5 poll by receiving 34,627 votes out of 63,048, beating Loyola’s Laila Savannah who had 25,834 votes. She will be awarded a sports backpack — along with a Raising Cane’s gift card and team swag from the sponsors.  Shreveport Times
  • In week 6 high school football, the Ruston Bearcats defeated the unbeaten Ouachita Parish Lions 21—14 while the Southwood Cowboys earned their first district win since 2019. Other teams, including North DeSoto, Neville, West Monroe and many more, opened their district schedules with key wins.  Shreveport Times
