CULTURE NEWS

  • Black Restaurant Week returns as the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber launches a seven-day celebration featuring over 25 local restaurants and bars that will highlight the impact of black-owned culinary businesses. The festivities will begin Sunday, October 19 at Vine Books & Vinyl—with special events including a cooking class and food truck night marking the 5th anniversary of the event.  KTAL
  • Rapper 50 Cent announced plans to boost Shreveport's arts and entertainment by leasing Millennium Studios and a former soundstage for 30 years, saying on Facebook he will 'turn the city all the way up.' His deals build on recent downtown investments and show strong local support (with over 17,000 likes) (as part of a broader effort to spur development).  Shreveport Times

  • The Caddo Commission advanced an ordinance to reallocate $50,000 from development revenues to support Christmas in Roseland at the American Rose Center—funding that became necessary after the National Rose Society left, with a public hearing scheduled for October 23 to review the measure.  Shreveport Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Two iconic 25-story Regions Bank towers on Texas Street in downtown Shreveport will go to auction at the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Sale on Oct. 29. They have been in receivership for over a year after missing utility payments and a SWEPCO cutoff notice in August 2024 — with the owner owing more than $420K — while holding about 80% occupancy.  KTBS

  • Several Louisiana high school football teams joined this week's LSWA statewide football poll after Week 6, as the top teams in all classes remained unchanged with no major upsets. New entries (Vandebilt Catholic and Mangham) entered the top 10 in their respective classes.  Shreveport Times
  • Parkway high school football team won 48-43 over Airline last Thursday in a game with nine lead changes—marking their first win against the rival in five years.   • Nathan Barrow, now the PGA pro at Querbes Park, recalled the golden era of Shreveport Country Club when formal Sunday brunches and celebrated guests like Bob Hope and Mickey Mantle defined the local golf scene — even as years of disrepair and a later fire erased its legacy.   • Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate/318preps has launched a poll for Week 6 of the high school football season featuring seven candidates and will close the vote Wednesday at noon—Peyton Houston, who had 175 passing yards, four touchdowns, and 99 rushing yards in a 71-25 win over Captain Shreve, is one contender on the Player of the Year ballot.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • LSU coach Brian Kelly is on a candidate list for the Penn State coaching job after James Franklin was fired following a 3-3 start—Sports Illustrated named him as a potential replacement.
