- ➤ Shreveport will host Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s 94th South Central Regional Conference from March 26–29 — nearly 6,000 members and thousands of social delegates will fill hotels, restaurants, and shops as the city expects a boost in economic activity. KTBS

- ➤ The recent passing of actress Diane Keaton revived interest in her film Mad Money, which filmed key scenes in Shreveport at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum that was transformed in 2008 to serve as a stand-in for a federal bank — a detail noted by museum curator Nita Cole. A commemorative plaque now sits outside the museum — marking its role in the film and celebrating the city’s cinematic history. KTBS
- ➤ Haley and Eric Kirton, a brother and sister from Shreveport, will compete in Film Prize today with each film showing online at 11 a.m.—in-person screenings will begin Oct. 17. - ➤ The Greater Shreveport Chamber partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to bring the 2026 National Civics Bee to Caddo Parish so that middle school students can showcase their civic knowledge by submitting essays and then competing at regional levels. Students have until February 3, 2026 to enter the contest and finalists will move on to a championship in Washington, D.C. — with prizes, scholarships and school funding available. KTAL

- ➤ A cold front will move through the ArkLaTex this weekend and bring severe weather with rain on Saturday + cooler temperatures on Sunday. Southfield School third-grader Emery Lang shared his forecast to help local residents prepare for the changing weather. KTAL

- ➤ Downtown Regions Bank Tower is slated for sale at the upcoming Caddo Sheriff’s Sale on Oct.29. Officials said SWEPCO issued an electricity disconnection notice in August that was later resolved—Regions Bank clarified it is a tenant and not the building’s owner. KSLA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Out of the Darkness suicide awareness walk will take place on Oct. 18 and aims to bring attention to suicide prevention. Organizers hope the event will improve understanding of mental health and reduce the stigma surrounding depression. KSLA
- ➤ Today, Oschner LSU-Health Shreveport hosts an event at St. Mary Medical Center to honor pregnancy, infant, and child loss with grief specialist talks starting at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., a worldwide candle lighting will kick off a 24-hour wave of light and offer free refreshments—this event is open to the public.
