BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Southern Public Relations Federation will hold its 2025 Annual Conference—LIVE WITH Public Relations—at the Live Casino Hotel in Bossier City from Oct. 19–21. The conference will feature expert talks, hands-on sessions on new tools, and awards to honor industry achievements.  Shreveport's Secrets

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Krewe of Centaur began in 1989 with four founders and has grown to over 780 members and 30 floats that help bring millions of dollars to our region each Mardi Gras. The group continues to honor its tradition with themed parades and regular monthly meetings—drawing thousands of spectators and boosting local tourism.  KSLA
  • Louisiana Association for the Blind will host the second annual Eye Ball at Live! Casino Hotel in Bossier City on October 25 at 7 p.m. The event will feature dueling DJs, a costume contest with a $1,000 cash prize, a haunted forest tunnel, heavy hors d'oeuvres and interactive fortune telling.  Shreveport's Secrets
  • Prize Fest began yesterday in downtown Shreveport with celebrity chefs, comedians, filmmakers and musicians filling the streets for the five-day festival. Top Chef winner Tristen Epps returns for his seventh year and will host a demo and barbecue takeover on Friday, Oct.17th, with a live cooking competition on Saturday, Oct.18th.  Shreveport Times
  • A South Louisiana musician performed Cajun French music on The Voice on Oct. 15, showcasing local tradition on a national stage. The performance highlighted the region’s rich cultural heritage.  KSLA
  • Rick Rowe previewed Fields of Faith, a ministry program that will encourage athletes to read the Bible daily and build a closer bond with Jesus Christ. The event will be held at Airline High School (Bossier City) football stadium.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alyson Humphrey Smith from A.C. Steere Smith Elementary in Shreveport was named a semifinalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award after beating nearly 2,000 teachers nationwide. She will be honored during Grammy Week in early February—an accolade that spotlights her impact on students.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Shreveport will accept a $400,000 two-year grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to build repurposed shipping container modular units that offer transitional and permanent housing for the homeless population (Mayor Tom Arceneaux will have documents prepared for a council vote on October 28).  KTAL
  • Acadian Ambulance Service was selected as the sole provider of ground ambulance services for Sabine Parish by the EMS Advisory Board on Tuesday with the contract effective Jan. 1. The company scored 777 out of 800 points and will station three ambulances in the parish — it will also hire local EMS professionals to improve response times.  KTBS
  • Shreveport’s Block by Block initiative picked up 810 tons of trash and 3,035 tires from 11 neighborhoods while the fire department installed 50 free smoke detectors to boost home safety—312 volunteers helped complete the clean sweeps. Mayor Tom Arceneaux said Phase II will reinvest in Mooretown and Highland with plans based on nearly 400 neighborhood survey responses.  KTAL
  • Eleven Louisiana cities will host No Kings protests on Oct. 18 to reject authoritarian politics. In Shreveport, organizers will hold two events—one at the Caddo Courthouse from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and another along East 70th St. and Youree Drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Shreveport Times
  • Ariel Washington has suffered a leaking water line at her South Mansfield home since September that flooded yards and attracted pests—Mayor Alvin Williams said the city filed a new repair ticket after AT&T agreed to mark its buried utilities for safe repairs.  KTAL

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Louisiana Department of Insurance urges Medicare beneficiaries to review their coverage during the Open Enrollment Period, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 and will update plans effective Jan. 1. Beneficiaries should check their plan documents+confirm their doctors are in network if switching plans.  KTBS

  • This week’s Pet of the Week is a small kitten named Harry Pawter at Caddo Parish Animal Services. He was found wandering a neighborhood and is now ready for adoption with a $50 fee that covers his spaying/neutering, microchip, and vaccinations—helping him find a safe home.  KTAL
