COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Caddo-Shreveport Crime Stoppers hosted their 4th annual Burgers 4 the Badge luncheon at SPD headquarters on Texas Avenue to thank law enforcement officers with free lunches and a $10 meal option for community members—Willis Knighton Health System matched every donation dollar for dollar. Police Chief Wayne Smith said SPD will soon relocate due to major building reconstruction—making this event one of its last at this location.  KTAL
  • The City of Shreveport’s Block by Block Initiative finished its first phase by removing 810.9 tons of litter and 3,035 tires from 11 neighborhoods with the help of 312 volunteers — firefighters also visited homes to install 50 free smoke detectors. City leaders plan to expand the program in the next phase to boost neighborhood safety and cleanliness.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Volunteers for Youth Justice will host Haunt the Harbor, a Halloween event on Oct. 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 3004 Knight Street + the nonprofit is collecting candy donations while community partners provide free food and music.  KSLA
  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office invites parents to enroll teens in the free C.H.O.I.C.E. program that helps guide them away from risky behavior. The class is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18—9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—at the Community Relations and Crime Prevention Office on 1501 Corporate Drive—in Shreveport.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • Taylor Gibson is hosting a Halloween-themed livestream event at Lowder Baking Company to showcase special treats—like cinnamon rolls and themed cookies—and offer a behind-the-scenes look at the bakery’s seasonal magic.  KTBS
  • Three chefs—Jasmine Cherry of The Noble Savage, Dylan Teekell of The Library on Fern, and Chelsea Girard of Heron/Mae & Company—advanced to the Golden Fork competition after public votes and judge scores at Wednesday's Come & Get It event in Shreveport. They will face off in a live, Chopped-style showdown on Saturday, October 18, while Shalom Sahlie from Prohibition Bar won the Golden Shaker award.  Shreveport Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • BOM Bank has donated funds to help Haughton Middle School volleyball team cover travel expenses, athletic equipment—and pregame meals and uniforms. The donation will help the team prepare for a successful season.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Louisiana officials approved a change that will cut the number of high school state tests from six to four to ease student testing while keeping high standards. The new policy will take effect for students entering ninth grade in the 2026-2027 school year + tests in English and math will be split into two parts with a comprehensive exam at the end of tenth grade.  KTAL
  • Bossier Parish Community College issued a shelter in place alert on Oct 16—after reinstating its campus mask mandate, asking people on campus to move indoors and lock doors. Visitors must wait for an official all clear before entering campus.  KSLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is holding a silent auction for one horse and two donkeys after their owner could not be located—bids are accepted in person at the Patrol Office on North Market Street from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until October 23, and the winning bidder will be contacted on October 24 to arrange pickup.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Renovation work continues at downtown Shreve Memorial Library after a fire and water caused major damage more than two and a half years ago—roof repairs are finished. Crews will restore the interior—officials plan to reopen the library to the public by mid-2026.  KTBS

  • Evangel, riding a five-game win streak and fresh off a 71-25 win over Captain Shreve where senior Otis Washington had his third sack and 40 tackles, faces Benton tonight in the only local football game of Week 7 — Benton, which is on a two-game win streak, also features top quarterbacks from the Class of 2027.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • The undefeated Panthers rely on four senior linebackers who have played together since childhood—Mark Copenhaver, J.P. McGovern, Brady Prine, and Colby Lee—to lead one of the top defensive groups in the area. Coaches Coy Brotherton and Chris Kennedy developed the unit, and the players will use their teamwork to control explosive offenses in upcoming games and boost their playoff chances.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
