COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Alzheimer’s Association hosted its annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s at the Louisiana Boardwalk, uniting community members to raise funds and awareness for the disease — organizers plan more events in the coming weeks to increase support for affected families.  KTAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Krewe of Gemini named Chef Niema DiGrazia as the Grand Marshal for its 2026 Mardi Gras parade—she is a well-known chef from Shreveport who won on Beat Bobby Flay. Local teams are preparing floats for the 'Greatest Show' theme, with family-friendly events leading up to the parade on February 14.  KTAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seventh Tap Eastbank and Bossier Parish Community College will host Talks on Tap: The Art of Debate on October 23 at 6 p.m.—the session will feature a national champion BPCC alumnus and an award-winning debate coaching team to show how debate builds confidence and critical thinking. The free event is open to the public.  KTAL
  • On November 1, the Caddo-Bossier LSU Alumni group will host a tailgate-style scholarship fundraiser at Bodacious Bar & Q from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event will include food, drinks, and games (raffle tickets for LSU football) and local University of Alabama alumni (joining to support LSU students).  KTAL

  • Local voters in Shreveport can vote for the SBC Advocate/318preps Football Player of the Week; voting ends Wednesday at noon. The winner will join the season’s player of the year ballot.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Jeff Duncan explained that the Saints lost 26-14 to the Bears on Sunday at Soldier Field — marking their worst seven-game start since 1999 — as the Bears forced four turnovers and rushed for a season-high 222 yards, while the Saints struggled to gain first downs.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • The week 7 high school football recap reviewed local and statewide game results with wins like Evangel's 59-0 victory over Benton and Natchitoches Central's 35-31 win over Byrd - Parkway also saw a key play when Damian Dacaldacal was stopped at Lee Hedges Stadium.   • Louisiana’s top Class of 2027 junior golfer Noah Chauvin has committed to Georgia Tech after receiving offers from several top programs, and he will finish his high school career with the Blue Gators before joining the Yellowjackets in 2026. He said the school’s excellent practice facilities will help him improve his wedge game — a key focus for his tournament play.  Shreveport Times
  • The Shreveport Times is hosting online voting for Week 7 High School Athlete of the Week featuring 15 non-football student athletes from local schools in sports like volleyball, cross country, swimming and cheerleading.   • The Centenary Gents beat the Lyon Scots 23-20 in overtime on Saturday at Bad Boy Mowers Stadium, with a game-ending goalline stand and key field goal sealing the win.   • LSU Shreveport and LSU baseball teams arrived in Washington, D.C. Sunday and attended a reception at Adams — Reese with Speaker Mike Johnson ahead of today's White House ceremony honoring them for their undefeated season and NAIA World Series win.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Fifteen local high school football players were named to the Shreveport Times Week 7 poll, and coaches may still submit names for future nominations.
