COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce is hosting Black Restaurant Week for its fifth year, and over 25 Black-owned restaurants will offer lunch + dinner specials at value prices for a seven-day event. The week will highlight a variety of cuisines and provide local businesses with the chance to showcase their cultural influence.  KTAL
  • Dimbo Dilbert Mayner Jr. III spoke at the No Kings protest in downtown Shreveport where a protester carried a puppet during the event.  Shreveport Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two Turner Elementary students, (5-year-old Danielle Spearman and 9-year-old Aliyah Robinson) died after suffering injuries from a house fire last weekend, adding to the loss of two sisters in a fire six months ago.  KTBS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Music Prize 2025 featured 10 bands over two days—Cure for Paranoia won the $10,000 grand prize while Bond Plus and Big Wy’s Brass Band tied for the Audience Choice award with $1,000 each. More than 1,000 musicians competed, marking a milestone for Shreveport as it grows into an indie music hub.  Shreveport Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Louisiana Digital Library at LSU Hill Memorial Library is getting a $190,320 grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents to buy a new microfilm scanner—this upgrade will let the library digitize historic archives, including plantation records and police jury minutes, to preserve them for future use. The project will start with about 150 reels, and it supports free online access and university classes that rely on these important materials.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office has launched its 5th Annual Purple Box Project to support survivors of domestic violence by collecting essential personal care items in purple boxes. The campaign runs through November 10 and partners with local organizations—Providence House, Project Celebration, and the Caddo Family Justice Center—to help victims rebuild their lives.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bossier sophomore quarterback Montrevell Lewis became the first local player in 21 years to gain 1,000 yards passing and rushing when he ran for 141 yards and scored both touchdowns against Northwood on Friday night—his milestone came during a weekend of close and hard-fought high school football games.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Calvary Baptist beat Union Parish 48–0 Friday night—extending their 68-game district win streak in a district showdown marked by quick scoring and key defensive plays. Sophomore linebacker J.W.   • Loyola won 62-14 over Woodlawn at Messmer Stadium as Ty Walsworth threw a touchdown pass and Bryce Restovich set a school record with a 50-yard run; Coach John Sella said the team will fix its 10 penalties and defensive lapses Monday—keeping the Flyers undefeated at 7-0 and No. 1 in Division II Select.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
