BUSINESS NEWS

  • Starbucks announced that its annual Red Cup Day will take place on Nov. 13 in Shreveport-Bossier where customers will receive a free reusable red holiday cup with a handcrafted drink purchase while supplies last; the coffee chain will launch its holiday menu and exclusive Hello Kitty merchandise collection on Nov. 6.  Shreveport Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Prize Fest 2025 in downtown Shreveport ended with the Prize Foundation awarding winners in film, food, music and comedy—Michael Cusumano’s film Last Minute won the Louisiana Film Prize from 19 local finalists. Festival events included cash prizes, grants and a cooking battle rescheduled due to bad weather—showing Shreveport’s growing creative strength.  Shreveport's Secrets
  • Holy Angels is inviting the community to the 44th Annual TASTE: A Festival of Food and Art on November 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center— the event will offer tastings from more than 30 local restaurants, live music, dancing and a silent auction to support programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Shreveport's Secrets

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Donnie Bickham Middle School on Wednesday, school board members, faculty, and principals gathered to celebrate the remodeled library. The renovation adds more space for classes — it features new shelves, furniture, updated technology, and plans for librarians to teach safe internet practices.  KTBS
  • Caddo Parish Schools Superintendent Keith Burton said on Tuesday that bus driver absenteeism dropped 52% after incentives were introduced—this improvement kept all bus routes running smoothly compared to last year. Campus attendance at Adkins Elementary rose from 88% to 94% and truancy numbers nearly halved at several schools—two capital projects also finished under budget.  KTBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Jeff Landry warned Louisiana SNAP cardholders that starting November 1 they will not receive new benefits if the federal shutdown in Washington, DC continues—only remaining benefits can be used. The Louisiana Department of Health is notifying recipients this week and will update information online once funds are restored.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • The Bossier Chamber of Commerce held its Public Policy Series event featuring Adam Knapp, CEO of Leaders for a Better Louisiana, who discussed state economic growth and changing policies. HEALTH NEWS

  • The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting to open Shreveport Direct Care, a new healthcare facility providing accessible and personalized services to local residents.   • The Ronald McDonald House of Shreveport-Bossier will hold its grand opening on Tuesday, October 28 at 10 a.m. at 9100 Susan Dr. in Shreveport—this opening will extend support to families needing care and lodging.  KTAL

  • Shreveport native and former NBA player Stromile Swift will host a free basketball camp on November 1 at Princess Park Community Center — registration runs from 8—9 a.m. Participants with disabilities will learn basic basketball skills through drills offered by SPAR Therapeutic in partnership with Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
