ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An early morning wreck on I-49 northbound from the Southern Loop involved an 18-wheeler carrying 44,000 pounds of cardboard boxes that overturned at 3:03 a.m. Wednesday — no injuries were reported and crews remain clearing the scene while the driver refused emergency transport. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Fatty Arbuckles, one of the last original bars in the Red River District, will move to a new, larger venue at 205 Wall Street (the former Ernie’s Bar site) later this year with a beer garden concept offering an expanded outdoor patio, live music, and local food trucks. - ➤ The hit movie Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, will be re-released in select IMAX theaters from October 30 to November 5 so fans can experience its bold visuals on a huge screen—local theaters in Louisiana are among the venues participating. KTAL
- ➤ Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation unveiled its new BE KIND art installation that invites residents and visitors to pose as the I in KIND—this interactive display celebrates kindness and creativity in the community. Shreveport Bossier Journal
- ➤ Film Louisiana held a briefing after a delegation went to Los Angeles on October 15th to show Hollywood executives how Louisiana’s landscapes, tax credit extension through Act 44, and workforce training incentives attract film projects+ independent projects in St. Francisville and New Orleans and a feature film set to begin in Baton Rouge early next year were also highlighted. Jason Waguespack said the state will support film production by helping crew members find work via social media and postings from Louisiana Economic Development. KTAL

- ➤ The Shreveport Job Corps is asking the Caddo Commission for help funding its job training programs—this effort aims to secure the resources needed to continue offering classes. KSLA
- ➤ Magnolia School of Excellence increased enrollment by 33% over the past five years as families choose the school for its strong community culture & personalized learning. The school serves students from kindergarten to 12th grade and offers advanced courses, competitive athletics and fine arts programs while connecting learners with local colleges for career pathways. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux said the fire on October 13th on Milton Street that killed two children – who attended Turner Elementary – is being treated as homicide arson while he urged residents to support the family by checking home smoke alarms and noted that the city is discussing with the National Guard the removal of unsafe apartment complexes. - ➤ Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry warned that SNAP benefits will be cut off on November 1 if the shutdown does not end soon—Julie Allen from the Salvation Army said local families and kids will suffer without aid and urged the community to donate food items. KTAL
- ➤ Food pantries and banks in Shreveport are seeing more people in need and fewer donations amid the ongoing government shutdown; Gov. Jeff Landry warned that SNAP benefits may stop next month if the shutdown continues. The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana saw a 16% rise in need while Noel Food Pantry expects over 400 visitors this month + both groups ask for food and monetary donations to help the community. KTBS
