CULTURE NEWS

  • Centenary College Choir announced its 'Rhapsody in View' performance that will take place today at 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Shreveport and again on October 26th at 3:00 p.m. as part of its bicentennial celebration with music by alumnus James Eakin, Ph.D.—Advance tickets are $15, $17 at the door for adults, $10 for students, and free for non-school age children.  KTBS
  • MS Kick visited KSLA to explain how Foodie Fest will close Black Restaurant Week and shared details on the upcoming celebration of Creole cuisine—he noted that the event will highlight local flavors.  KSLA
  • The North Louisiana Civil Rights Coalition will host its inaugural Legends Gala on November 15 at 6 p.m. at the Shreveport Convention Center to honor five civil rights pioneers—Dr. Harry Blake, Dr. E. Edward Jones, Mamie Love Wallace, Dr. C.C. McLain, and Rev. H. Calvin Austin—while raising funds to restore the Old Galilee Baptist Church, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made his first Shreveport speech and which is set to become North Louisiana’s first Civil Rights Museum.  KTAL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A case of the New World Screwworm—a flesh-eating larva that can kill livestock—was reported 70 miles from the border, raising concern among local cattle producers. USDA officials continue efforts to contain the pest and urge farmers to inspect their animals for wounds.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Moody's Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi said Louisiana's economy is growing even as 22 states and Washington, D.C. are in recession and 13 states face risks of job losses. He based his analysis on jobs, personal income, manufacturing and housing data — showing a 2.9% growth in gross state product and a 4.3% unemployment rate in 2025.  Shreveport Times

  • Caddo Parish Schools Superintendent Keith S. Burton spoke at the Caddo Retired Teachers Association meeting in Shreveport and shared district updates to support student success. He introduced the new logo and motto while thanking retired educators for their guidance—highlighting a strong partnership for future improvements.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal funding cuts have forced public radio stations including Red River Radio, WWNO & WYES to cut staff and boost fundraising efforts amidst shrinking budgets. In Shreveport, Red River Radio worked long hours and relied on volunteers after losing nearly $200,000, a challenge faced by stations across Louisiana.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • On Oct. 23, Gov. Jeff Landry warned that SNAP benefits might not be fully funded in November if the government shutdown continues—USDA reported the shutdown could cut federal funds while the state will rely on any remaining benefits from previous months.  Shreveport Times
  • Louisiana does not allow recreational marijuana even though 24 states have made it legal—patients can only use cannabis when doctors recommend it for a medical need. State law now lets licensed physicians expand medical use to treat a range of debilitating conditions.  Shreveport Times
  • Bossier Parish will honor veterans with a historic Tattoo Ceremony at BPCC Billy Montgomery Gymnasium at 10 a.m. Nov. 7. The free event is hosted by District 5 Representative Dennis Bamburg, Bossier Schools and BPCC—featuring local student performances and a simulated enlistment ceremony.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

  • Foreclosure filings in Louisiana have risen in 2025 after a year of decline, with an estimated 1 filing for every 3,200 to 4,700 homes during the spring and summer—details that highlight a slow judicial process taking more than eight years.
