COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Golfers and non-golfers can sign up for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation Golf Scramble on November 8 at Northwood Hills Golf Club in Blanchard to help veterans and first responders—organizer Randy Noble said the event, which offers door prizes and good food, is a valued annual tradition.  KTBS
  • The Bossier City Farmers Market was named the top market in Louisiana by American Farmland Trust & is attracting over 70 vendors each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizers credit the honor to support from residents & local producers as the market runs through November 29.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Louisiana State Fair returned yesterday to Shreveport for its 119th year at the Fairgrounds and will run until November 16, featuring 60 rides— including a new Ferris wheel from Turkey— over 100 food vendors and nearly 30 live band performances along with circus, livestock and lumberjack shows. Visitors enjoyed free admission before 3 p.m. on October 31 and a $5 fee applied later on select days.  KTAL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. News & World Report ranked 1,125 elementary schools in Louisiana for 2026 and listed 11 as the best (including Metairie Academy for Advanced Studies, South Highlands Elementary Magnet School, and Eden Gardens Fundamental Elementary School) based on math and reading scores.  Shreveport Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington presented a $70,000 check to several youth-focused charities at his office's first annual Kids Shoot for Youth Charities event, raising funds for groups such as St Jude's Children's Research Hospital, The Gingerbread House, Shriners Children's, Easter Seals and the March of Dimes. Planning is underway for next year's event to further support local children and families.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Gov. Jeff Landry said during a press conference that LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward would not select the next head coach because a problematic 2021 contract left the university liable for $54 million, and LSU announced Woodward stepped down immediately—leaving a leadership gap in the athletic department. State officials now work to address the fallout as the board prepares to choose a new coach.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Pet experts in Shreveport recommended that owners take extra steps this Halloween by using secure ID tags and reflective collars for their dogs — measures that helped keep them visible at night. They also advised choosing loose, comfortable costumes and setting up a quiet space to calm pets if decorations or trick-or-treaters caused stress.  KTBS

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New Zumper data shows Shreveport apartment rental prices slightly decreased to a typical listing of $1,000 this September with one-bedroom units averaging $780—4% lower than in August and 11% lower than last year's rate. The report covers all unit sizes and indicates that Shreveport listings are 29% below state and 47% below national medians.  Shreveport Times

  • In Thursday’s district games, Captain Shreve scored three touchdowns in a 65-44 win over Haughton while Northwood shut out Minden 42-0 and Parkway beat Benton 58-42; unbeatens Loyola will face North DeSoto tonight at Independence Stadium (Booker T.   • Grambling State football will use three quarterbacks today at 2 p.m. at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium because two key players are injured, with coach Mickey Joseph rotating Byron Eaton, Jr., A’Myne Darensbourg and true freshman Hayden Benoit. The Tigers, now 5-3, plan to run the ball—aiming to control the game—against Alabama A&M.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Thursday night football in the Ark-La-Tex produced multiple results with Parkway beating Benton 58 to 42, Capt. Shreve defeating Haughton 65 to 44, and other matchups including Natchitoches Central winning 34 to 14, Lafayette Christian edging Evangel 24 to 22, Calvary beating Green Oaks 38 to 20, Jonesboro-Hodge outscoring Glenbrook 18 to 14, Bossier winning 42 to 20, and Northwood shutting out Minden 42 to 0 — reflecting a strong field across the region.  KSLA
