COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Brookshire Grocery Company announced a $500,000 donation to food banks in the regions where its stores serve—Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma—to help families facing food insecurity amid a government shutdown and a pause in federal SNAP benefits. The company’s holiday food drives will run until Dec.16—inviting customers to donate at checkout to support local pantries.  KSLA
  • Jack’s BBQ and FRST hosted a fundraiser that raised over $6,500—donating all profits from ten-dollar chicken plates to help 130 Barksdale reservist families affected by the government shutdown. Early generous donations pushed the total well beyond an initial $2,500 goal, easing the struggles of many local heroes’ families.  KSLA
  • Dorothy Burnett Park Hensley, a devoted community member and church volunteer who also worked as a teacher and local business partner, died on October 30 in Houston—her legacy touched many Shreveport lives. A memorial service and reception will be held on November 10 at 2 p.m. at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Shreveport, and her family suggests donations be made to the church or Centenary College.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Commissioner Ken Epperson proclaimed Veterans Celebration Week for November 3–11 during a gathering with community leaders and veterans in Caddo Parish to honor local service members. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Centenary College invites local veterans and their families to a free Veterans Day Tribute on November 11 at 11 a.m. at the Hargrove Memorial Amphitheatre, where Major General Armagost will deliver the keynote and the college choir will perform; guests should park in Centenary Lot 13 (corner of Centenary Boulevard and Rutherford Street) and the ceremony will move indoors to Anderson Auditorium if it rains.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, SporTran is showcasing its EVOLVE autonomous vehicle at the Louisiana State Fair in Shreveport to demonstrate the future of safe and sustainable public transportation. The demo began on October 31 and will run until November 9 at 3701 Hudson St — offering fairgoers and community leaders a firsthand look at zero-emission transit.  Shreveport's Secrets
  • Caddo Parish leaders approved $200,000 in emergency funding on Monday evening to help the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana deliver food boxes to local families amid rising grocery prices and reduced SNAP benefits — the funds come from oil-and-gas reserves and will begin distribution Nov. 22 ahead of Thanksgiving — easing food insecurity in the area.  KTBS

  • Four of the top five local high school football teams will square off in two pivotal games this week to wrap up the regular season — with Evangel set to host Parkway for District 1-5A and Loyola set to face Northwood for District 1-4A.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • The North DeSoto Griffins moved to No. 1 after beating Loyola on Oct. 31—leaving them one win from a perfect season as Evangel fell to second and Parkway slid to third.
