COMMUNITY NEWS

  • BOM Bank sponsored Central Christian Academy’s inaugural LRCA Rodeo and Youth Rodeo in DeSoto Parish—Ireland Slocum and Jenny Birdwell appeared in photos to show support for the event that celebrated local youth activities.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • The Full for the Holidays program at Bethune Oak Park Elementary is asking community members to donate microwaveable meals for students during holiday break—items like macaroni and cheese, soups, pasta bowls, and oatmeal cups are needed to help ensure the children are fed. Donors may also contribute cash as the program works to provide a safe, nutritious meal option when school is out.  KTAL
  • Bossier Parish students, staff, and the school board replenished the Airman’s Attic with food and essential items at the Bossier Instructional Center as part of the district’s 11th annual Day of Service—182 cases of canned goods were donated by the sheriff’s office to support military families during the government shutdown.  KTBS
  • Holy Angels held its annual TASTE fundraiser on Nov. 6 to support its mission through food and art—local organizers said the event aimed to boost funds for its services.  KSLA
  • The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is hosting a free support class for grandparents raising grandchildren today from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Southern Hills Community Center & experts will provide guidance on legal, custody, child safety, and financial and emotional support topics.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Hyssop Care Foundation, led by Executive Director Alex T. Ray, launched a $2 million campaign on November 6 to build Grace Point Apartments—a 12-unit transitional housing complex for homeless families in Shreveport. Each unit will have two bedrooms, one bathroom, central air, and a washer/dryer to offer stability while families rebuild their lives.  KTAL
  • The NW LA Veterans Home held a parade to honor 140 veterans while community members gathered to recognize their service and sacrifice. The event celebrated local heroes and their legacy with shared respect.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation will host Art in the Park tomorrow from 12-4 p.m. at Richard Fleming Park on 7919 West Lakeshore Drive; the free event will feature over 50 local artists + live music, art demos, food vendors, and interactive activities for families.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Barksdale Air Force Base's STARBASE program faced new uncertainty on November 4 when reports showed it was once again at risk of ending. Officials are reviewing its future—local decision makers may announce further plans soon.  KTBS
  • Some Louisiana SNAP recipients saw money removed from their cards last week due to federal funding issues, but officials said eligible households will receive about 50% of their usual benefits today on their regular distribution day. The department also reopened SNAP offices—ending furloughs for 1,100 workers—as federal guidance stabilizes the program.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Bossier City angler Nick LeBrun will join a field of 24 top pros at the Major League Fishing Clash Team Series event from November 16th to 21st in Shreveport and Bossier.
