COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Legendary guitarist James Burton hosted a benefit concert on Friday night—at Horseshoe Riverdome in Bossier City—with 14-time Grammy winner Emmylou Harris to support Bossier Parish Schools, and his foundation donated guitars to local students for music education.  KTAL
  • Rockets over the Red will return to Riverview Park on November 29 for family fun and fireworks; the event will begin at 10 a.m. with food trucks, musical performances, Santa visits, the Red River Mistletoe Market, and face painting. The tree lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m.—followed by the Texas Street Bridge Light Show at 6:30 p.m., a drone show, and fireworks starting at 7:15 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m.  KTAL
  • The Cox family of Haughton has raised 9 children and cared for over 100 foster kids in their 9-bedroom home, showing their strong faith in action. They teach each child Biblical values and discipline while supporting those coming from tough situations.  KTBS
  • The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana is hosting an Angel Day at Walmart on Bert Kouns to support its Angel Tree program that helps children in need receive simple Christmas gifts. Shoppers picked out Angel tags and bought gifts on the spot, easing holiday stress for families including single parents.  KTAL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mt. Zion Church in Shreveport celebrated its 158th anniversary today—marking nearly 160 years of community strength and change. The church will also be honored in the African American history parade in February for Black History Month.  KTBS
  • Shreveport Little Theatre Academy will host several performances of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Jr. starting November 14 at 6 p.m.—with additional shows on November 15 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 5 p.m. and November 16 at 2 p.m.—to bring holiday cheer to the community.  KTAL

  • At Delaware Stadium Saturday, Louisiana Tech lost 25-24 after a late onside kick error let the Blue Hens score a 51-yard field goal with 12 seconds left+ coach Sonny Cumbie said missed special teams plays cost the Bulldogs a bowl-eligible win.   • Loyola edged Northwood 28-27 in a tight high school football game at Messmer Stadium; quarterback Bryce Restovich ran 20 yards for a touchdown and later made a 48-yard play that secured the Flyers’ No. 2 playoff seed—Northwood missed a field goal that could have put them ahead.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Record-shattering senior running back Jamarcea Plater will lead Captain Shreve into the playoffs Friday at Hammond, plus nine local teams are set for the LHSAA postseason with three hosting home games and six on the road as pairings were announced Sunday.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • In Week 10 games, Evangel climbed to first by defeating Parkway Friday night and Calvary earned its 70th district win to move to third—Loyola, Northwood and Bossier also shifted in the final SBJ Top 10 poll—setting the stage for competitive playoff matchups.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
