COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Ukrainian mother, Alla Yatsentyuk, and her 13 year old son Danylo spent six months in illegal captivity and are sharing their survival story today in Shreveport, accompanied by Save Ukraine CEO Mykola Kuleba. Their visit follows reuniting after detention and brings attention to a nonprofit that has rescued over 950 abducted children.  KSLA
  • Bossier Arena in Bossier City marked 25 years since its groundbreaking on March 30th, 1999 + it has hosted major acts like Taylor Swift and Garth Brooks while it will soon become home to the Louisiana Rouxgaroux arena football team and upgrade its facilities with a new security screening system funded by a ticket fee increase from $3 to $5.  KTBS

CRIME NEWS

  • A candlelight vigil was held Nov. 16th at North Caddo High School in Vivian in memory of officer Marc Brock, who was killed Friday while serving a warrant—community members gathered to honor his service.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

  • Local veteran Rick Rowe has collected letters sent to and from war zones up to 80 years ago that share messages of hope, sacrifice and loss—honoring the voices of soldiers and families still keeping these memories alive.  KTBS

HEALTH NEWS

  • During the week of Oct 26-Nov 1, five Caddo Parish restaurants received three or more critical health violations from the Louisiana Department of Health, with Chili's Grill and Bar cited for 11 issues including bugs in alcohol. The violations, which could lead to food contamination if uncorrected, have been addressed on site.  Shreveport Times

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • With Thanksgiving approaching, shoppers are advised to choose young turkeys under seven months old for more tender meat and to select a size that provides 1.5 pounds per person. Frozen turkeys can be purchased earlier but require up to four days to defrost—plan ahead for your holiday feast.  Shreveport Times

  • The Shreveport Times is holding an online vote for Week 11 High School Athlete of the Week as fifteen student-athletes from northwest Louisiana schools—such as Airline, North DeSoto, Haughton, Loyola, Northwood, Parkway, Ruston and Byrd—are in the running. Voting ends Thursday night and the winner will be announced Saturday, receiving a backpack, boxed lunch and additional swag.  Shreveport Times
