COMMUNITY NEWS

  • KSLA is hosting part two of its Holiday Food Drive today to collect food donations for families in need during the season — with drop-offs at Pioneer Comfort Systems on 1030 E Bert Kouns Industrial Loop and Jacqueline A. Scott and Associates on 1111 Pierremont Rd.  KSLA
  • Community Renewal International is hosting the We Care Neighbor Initiative rally tomorrow at Mount Canaan Baptist Church - over 200 community members will gather to honor local leaders and listen to guest speaker Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn.  KTAL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Downtown Shreveport’s Ono Hawaiian Grill announced on Facebook that it is closing its brick-and-mortar restaurant after just over a year and will return to its food truck model, with the location set to close on Nov. 23 — the business originally started as a food truck in 2016.  Shreveport Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Missy Moore is offering free blue and black bows in Vivian to honor fallen Officer Marc Brock, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on November 14—roughly 250 bows now hang on local businesses, homes and the town hall as a quiet sign of support.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shreveport won a national contest and will use a grant from the Levitt Foundation for free live concerts at Caddo Common Park. The Shreveport Regional Arts Council will reveal the full concert lineup and performance dates in a news conference in January (2026).  KSLA
  • Mrs. Mary Johnson, a teacher who founded the Peppermints baton and drum squad in 1973 to offer local youth new opportunities, died in September at age 75. Her work built a lasting community tradition in Shreveport—many locals credit her with inspiring them to dream big.  KTAL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana’s broadband plan received federal approval with $1.355 billion in grants — the first state to secure the funding and a generational push for high-speed internet in rural areas. Governor Jeff Landry said the investment will boost the economy and improve access to education and health care.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Louisiana's Unclaimed Properties department holds $1.4 billion in uncollected funds and urges residents to check for money owed from stocks, insurance claims, and more. Karla Houston received a call about $12,218 from a stock her father bought—officials will publish names this week to help others claim their money.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • The Shreveport Department of Water & Sewerage finished upgrades on its carbon silo on November 17 to provide cleaner and better tasting water by replacing dosing equipment + installing a new metal support ring to fix wear.  KSLA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Twenty-three Louisiana hospitals earned an A grade for patient safety in the Leapfrog study, but three hospitals received a D grade—Acadian Medical Center, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and Northern Louisiana Medical Center did not answer all survey questions—raising concerns about their scores.  Shreveport Times
  • The March of Dimes Report Card showed that all ArkLaTex states received poor grades, with Louisiana and Arkansas earning an F — Texas and Oklahoma receiving a D. The report detailed high preterm birth rates and ongoing challenges in maternal and infant health, noting nearly 380,000 preterm births last year.  KSLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSUS men’s and women’s weightlifters dominated the Southwest Regionals on Saturday, earning 15 of 16 podium finishes and regional titles in five events each — Bryson Brown and Grace Gonzales-Liz claimed best overall honors, and the team is preparing for the American Open Finals in Daytona Beach.  KTBS
