COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pioneer Comfort Systems participated in KSLA’s second Holiday Food Drive on Nov. 19 to help supply food to local residents during the festive season—donors and volunteers also joined the drive. The event underscored the local commitment to supporting those in need.  KSLA
  • Today, Pioneer Comfort Systems is accepting donations for KSLA's annual Holiday Food Drive as a drop-off location in Shreveport—inviting residents to contribute canned goods and non-perishable items. The drive is part of a multi-location effort aimed at supporting local families during the holiday season.  KSLA
  • Shreveport won a nationwide contest by the Levitt Foundation to bring a free concert series to Caddo Common Park and will host the event in the coming months — giving residents a new opportunity to enjoy live music outdoors.  KSLA
  • Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation in partnership with UnitedHealthcare will host a free turkey and ham giveaway at Oil City Community Center on Nov. 22 starting at 11 a.m. Families can receive frozen meats—supplies will be available until they run out.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys will host a holiday bike giveaway Dec. 6-10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Shreveport-Bossier — community members can receive bikes during the event.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • At its November 6 meeting, the Caddo Parish Commission recognized local performer Max Chambers for his rising success on The Voice — he is coached by Michael Bublé and has become a fan favorite. The commission emphasized his talent and stage presence as clear evidence of the strong local support for our artistic community.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Downtown Shreveport's 129-year-old Waddell A Truss Bridge—one of only two of its kind in the U.S.—spans Cross Bayou but is unsafe for pedestrians due to rotted wood and rust. The city acquired the bridge from KCS Railroad in 1991—local advocates are seeking grants to preserve this historic landmark—though repair costs remain high.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Caddo Parish Schools approved a new plan with Brentwood Hospital to expand confidential mental health services for students, teachers, and staff. The expanded outpatient program focuses on depression and suicide prevention — parents are advised to contact the hospital if they believe their child needs help.  KTBS
  • Third-grader Adeline Kirsch and her classmates at South Highlands Elementary Magnet are exploring artificial intelligence and coding in the Presidential AI Challenge to develop projects that help others— a program enriched by mentorship from Louisiana Tech University. Teacher Katie Chirhart and CYBER.ORG instructors emphasize that applying lessons from the classroom to real-world problems builds early STEM skills.  KTBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana became the first state to secure final federal approval for over $1.35 billion in broadband funding that will support the GUMBO 2.0 initiative—construction will begin in the coming weeks to connect more than 128,000 underserved locations and create up to 10,000 jobs. Gov. Jeff Landry called the approval a generational investment aimed at advancing the state’s digital infrastructure.  KTBS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Captain Shreve coach Erik Lane reached 700 wins on Monday night when the Lady Gators beat Northwood 8-0—he now holds a 141-28-16 record after moving from Houston. Local teams are gearing up for the Flyer Invitational this weekend as the preseason poll ranks Benton, Byrd, and Loyola among the top contenders.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Booker T Washington’s Lions won a 22-14 home playoff game over Istrouma, earning their first postseason victory in 20 years as sophomore quarterback Devion Stewart led the team.   • LSUS weightlifters won the men’s and women’s regional titles at the 2025 Southwest Regionals held last Saturday at Texas State — Henry Ludbrook topped his division while Bryson Brown and Grace Gonzales-Liz earned overall honors using the Sinclair Formula. The team now prepares for the American Open Finals in Daytona Beach from Dec. 4–7 and for national championships in April.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
