COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ KSLA is holding its 37th annual Coats for Kids drive to collect jackets for children in need, and donations can be made at any Porter's location with a public giveaway scheduled for Jan. 3 at Porter's Fine Dry Cleaning on Southfield Road (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.). KSLA
- ➤ Community groups I Am Change, Inc., Refreshing Point Ministries and NAACP will host a turkey and grocery giveaway on November 24 at 9 a.m. at Refreshing Point Ministries on Linwood Avenue in Shreveport. The event will distribute 150 free turkeys and 150 grocery bags while supplies last—helping local families prepare for Thanksgiving. KTAL
- ➤ Clyde and his sister Bonnie from Caddo Parish Animal Services are available for adoption—visitors can meet the pups, fill out an application, and pay a $50 fee. Both animals are neutered or spayed and vaccinated, and the shelter welcomes those interested in volunteering if they are not ready to adopt. KTAL
- ➤ Attorney Jacqueline Scott held her annual drive-thru turkey giveaway at her Shreveport office on Nov. 20—marking the fourth year of the event. KSLA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Shreveport Regional Arts Council received the Levitt Grant from the Levitt Foundation to fund a free outdoor concert series in our city until 2028. The council will announce a full lineup of artists and performance dates at a press conference in January. KTAL
- ➤ Today, the immersive LUMIERE Christmas experience opens in northwest Louisiana and features the state's tallest Christmas tree, a synthetic ice slide, a scavenger hunt with clues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and daily visits from Santa—offering a unique holiday treat for the season. - ➤ Shreveport's 51st Annual Les Boutiques de Noel Christmas Market opens today at the Shreveport Convention Center and runs until Nov. 23 — the market is the main fundraiser for the Shreveport Opera Guild and will feature a special Santa Claus appearance on Sunday. KSLA
- ➤ The Robinson Film Center will premiere 'Portal In The Pines,' a sci-fi horror film produced in northwest Louisiana that follows a rural fireman who finds a secret portal to hell, on Dec. 2. The filmmakers (Eric Gibson, Garrett Kruithof, and Kemerton Hargrove) will host a Q&A after the screening to discuss the film and Louisiana's growing independent film industry. Shreveport Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Caddo Parish Public Schools earned a 76.6 score on the LDOE 2025 School Performance Scores and maintained its overall 'B' rating, reflecting improvements in student growth in English and math. Twelve schools were named Top Gains while seven received Opportunity Honoree status — the scores show significant progress in key areas. KTAL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Landry announced that Louisiana has been approved for $1.36B in federal broadband funding and the plan will create 8,000—10,000 jobs, generate $2B—$3B in revenue, and connect about 130,000 underserved locations statewide. The state will also allocate nearly 70% of the funds to local companies to boost long-term growth in workforce, education and healthcare. KTAL
- ➤ State Senator Sam Jenkins of Shreveport plans to honor fallen officer Marc Brock—who was killed on November 14—by proposing to name a highway segment in Vivian after him. The legislation will be introduced in March after receiving the family's approval and must pass both houses and the governor's signature. KSLA

- ➤ LSUS Pilots celebrated their perfect 59-0 season at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum in Natchitoches Tuesday where coaches and players shared memories and plans for their season to open on Jan. 23, 2026—when they will face Tabor College.
