COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The CPKC Holiday Train will run from Nov. 19 to Dec. 21 and visit several stops in the ArkLaTex to raise funds and food donations for local banks. In Shreveport, the train will arrive at 4550 N Lakeshore Dr. on Nov. 30 from 7:45 to 8:15 p.m. and feature live performances by Smash Mouth and JJ Wilde.  KSLA

CRIME NEWS

  • A WalletHub study ranked over 180 U.S. cities using 37 indicators of vice, and it found that three Louisiana cities are among the 30 most sinful, with New Orleans placed 10th, Baton Rouge 11th, and Shreveport 26th. The study measured factors like violent crime, excessive drinking, and adult entertainment (highlighting concerns over local vice) to compile its results.  Shreveport Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grambling State University’s marching band has been training since August by rotating new drumline members and holding rigorous practices to build precision for today’s Bayou Classic battle of bands—preparing for a performance that honors a long legacy. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Heaven Barrera, a Caddo Parish middle school student and November Student Leader of the Month, delivered a speech at the school board meeting where she said her father's fight with cancer and care for her younger brother with autism taught her strength and empathy—she added that softball, basketball, and track taught her discipline as she plans to study psychology and law. Her principal Lynette Hampton later joined her at the podium after learning it was her birthday.  KTBS
  • Caddo Magnet High School in Shreveport had thirteen seniors become National Merit semifinalists— the highest count in northwest Louisiana, officials announced. Principal Amanda Dolf led the school that continues to set high academic standards through the 71st National Merit Scholarship Program.  KTBS

  • Ouachita Parish defeated Parkway 28-22 in a Non-Select Division I quarterfinal game on Friday, Nov. 28 — the contest was played at Preston Crownover Stadium in Bossier City.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Archbishop Shaw defeated Loyola College Prep 38-7 in the Select Division II playoffs quarterfinals on Nov. 28th at Messmer Stadium in Shreveport—this loss ended Loyola’s playoff run.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Donnie Bickham Middle School's Lady Patriots were honored by the Caddo Parish Commission for completing a perfect 12—0 season, a rare feat that shows the strength of youth softball in Shreveport. Principal Dennis Spires and commissioners praised the team's discipline and teamwork, noting that the momentum will boost their return next season.  KTBS
  • LSU women's basketball played Marist Friday night in the Paradise Jam Tournament at the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the undefeated Tigers aimed to extend a six-game winning streak and break NCAA scoring records using ESPN+ for live coverage. If they won, they will advance to a championship game today at 8:30 p.m. CT against the winner of the matchup between Washington State and Miami of Ohio.  Shreveport Times
