CULTURE NEWS

  • City contractors nearly finished stabilizing Old Galilee Baptist Church in Shreveport—a historic site where Martin Luther King Jr. spoke—using about $2.5 million from HUD grants to secure the building. The North Louisiana Civil Rights Coalition will soon fundraise to transform the church into a museum that honors the community's civil rights legacy.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Robinson Film Center is hosting a showcase for Portal in the Pines— a film shot in North Louisiana by Eric Gibson.  KSLA
  • On November 29, the Sci-Port Discovery Center hosted SnoPort, a winter exhibition that taught visitors about global weather patterns and ecosystems with a focus on rare winter snow. The event drew many kids and featured interactive displays (a geo-play table, immersive snow globe and virtual reality simulators) that enhanced the learning experience.  KSLA
  • Renowned artist William Joyce—writer and illustrator—will hold a book signing at Artspace.  KSLA
  • Alex Richardson, the Bossier Arts Council’s marketing coordinator and artist, discussed his exhibition Plated Memories—where food experiences inspire his lifelong passion for art on the gallery’s walls.  KSLA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lafayette native Anil Cacodcar, a Harvard senior, became Louisiana’s first Rhodes scholar in a decade and will study at Oxford for two years+ he was one of only 32 Americans picked and one of six from Harvard. He earned early honors as a U.S. Presidential Scholar and led research projects on youth voting and public health, showing strong ties to his community.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade rated 26 Louisiana hospitals for patient safety; 23 earned an A grade while three that did not submit complete responses received a D grade—highlighting the link between survey participation and safety outcomes.  Shreveport Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU men's basketball improved their 7-0 record with a 96-63 win over DePaul at Raider Arena in Destin on Saturday as they built a 50-22 halftime lead led by Pablo Tamba’s 14 points. Coach Matt McMahon said the team was focused — they are now preparing for SEC play in January.  Shreveport Times
  • The Shreveport Times is holding an online vote for the Week 13 High School Athlete of the Week featuring 15 student-athletes from northwest Louisiana schools in sports like wrestling, soccer and basketball. Voting will remain open online through Thursday night—winners will be named Saturday and will receive a backpack, a boxed lunch combo and other prizes.  Shreveport Times
  • Ten high school football players from local schools were nominated for the Times Week 13 Athlete of the Week poll—fans will vote online until Thursday evening—and the winner will receive a backpack, meal card, and sponsor swag.  Shreveport Times
